I think so.
The United States sends it's young off to fight in other countries at 17 or 18 years old. If they are old enough and mature enough to accept the fact that they have a good chance of dieing for our country's freedom, then they should also be old enough to have a drink.
That's just my opinion.

To be honest, I do not think lowering the age to 18 would make a difference. The problem is, most teenagers and young adults do not drink responsibly. People who cannot handle alcohol, need not to drink! Those are the irresponsible one's that adds the pressure to those who can drink responsibly, but suffers the consquences of those who make poor decisions, or behave in a childess manner.

It really isn't the age, it's the maturity level of a person, and if too many people are behaving in a childess way, then the age limit gets higher, it's been shifting up and down for years now, they can move the age limit up to 30 or 40 years old, it wouldn't matter because older people act poorly when drinking as well.

So, hum, go figure!

I think that the drinking age should be changed from 21 to "adulthood". IN meaning that I don't believe that our soldiers should be able to go to war, defend our country, and not be able to have a drink afterwards. I don't believe a mother should be able to go to work, support her children and not be able to have a drink to unwind afterwards.

HOWEVER< the age part is set because that way ID's can be checked. You cannot check the "adulthood" of an individual any other way. It is not a good source of telling whether or not someone is responsible enough to handle a beer or not. I know 50 year olds who should still not be allowed to go out and drink. I know 18 year olds who would be fine and able to handle it.

Maybe it should be changed to 21 in clubs/bars/etc. And 18 in a private location.

NO. I know plenty of 21 year old "adults" who aren't mature enough to drink. Lowering the legal age to 18 is just asking for trouble...

No. The drinking age is actually 19 here and I wish it would be raised. There are 19 years olds who are mature enough to handle their alcohol - maybe even a lot of them. You wouldn't know it here. People go downtown on the weekends to get blind drunk and to fight and then they drive home - completely irresponsible behavior. While being 21 doesn't protect against stupidity, younger is not always better.

Nope, been there, done that. Under 21 (under 25, actually) brains aren't even done developing yet. They do enough stupid stuff already. Why legally add alcohol to the mix?
