I want to be seen as a independent student so that I can fill out the Fafsa without my parents being involved, file my tax return as an independent. If I wait for my parents to sign the paperwork for me, it takes forever and I miss deadlines.

I also want to be seen as a in-state student so I can afford to go to back to school.

How can I prove that I am independent from my family?

If you need additional details, contact me and I will add the details.
Thank you,
~ Yumi

P.s.: I can't join the military and getting married sounds unlikely.
(And no, I didn't want to do those just to be seen as independent.)

Also, please don't bother telling me to look for scholarships/grants, I do so already.

Depending what state you live, they needed my mom's tax info even though I wasn't living with her since I was 19. FAFSA said that in my state you aren't seen as independant 'til your 24, I thought it was bs. That's how it is where I'm from, I know it's a raw deal, but sometimes that's how it is. Go to the local county or gov't building and see what they say. They can give you the correct answers, they may not be the ones you'd like though.

You already are independent. You must get a state i.d., it will help you immensely. You only have to reside where you live for six months to establish residency. If you do not live with your parents, and they don't support you, they cannot claim you on their taxes. (They could go to jail for doing so). So go ahead and file your own taxes. You can apply through fafsa without having your parents involved. Good luck.
