I guess called 'Ubonics'...I think their whole life style is different as well...Do they want to maintain their separate identity? Can someone from the African-american commuinity please explain if this is true?

No offence intended, just want to understand this.

I agree with those who have mentioned that different regions have different accents but I am talking about a group of people. How come they speak Ebonics from North to South from East to West of the country???

Well, from a latina point of view, I will give it to you this way; the intellectual blacks speak wisely and intelligently, in other words, we can understand them. Because they were educated in good quality schools and have parents who, 9 times out of 10, had a College education and a successful career, and or business, so they enforced that which they were taught and knew to their children.

Those who were not taught to read and write well growing up in their homes, were poorly uneducated and were also poor students in school. Most of the uneducated blacks find it cool to speak "ebonics" and use repeated phrases such as : (you know what I'm saying), (True dat, true dat), (my bad), (Sup wit dat)...because we hear these phrases so often by rappers and other's that speak this way, we know what they are saying..

Ebonics, no matter who speaks it, sounds so (ignorant) it's not cute, and it makes a person who speaks this way sound stupid, and so uneducated, that you cringe when you hear it. There is nothing politically correct going on here, If you speak well because you were educated well, you come across as a person of intellect. If you speak dum, you come across just as that (DUM)!

There is no reason for a person living in America to speak this way, my goodness, the library is free, open's from morning to evenings, pick up a book and start reading!!

If you travel around the USA, you will notice different dialects of English; Ebonics is just one of them. People from Massachusetts sound a whole lot different from people who came from Texas. Groups of people have different dialects though there is only one Standard English that is taught in school. Made up words are not just limited to people who speak Ebonics. Listen to someone from the south and you will understand. Not everyone speaks slang though.

Not all of them do that, but I guess it has to do with wanting to keep a separte identity in order to become a separate stronger group
Many groups of people from different nationalities or backgrouds do it when they get to a new place, it's not bad, I guess is instict, trying to keep your group together
