A saying says, “If you do away with harlots, the world will convulse with lust”.

By history, prostitution or similar matters are social phenomenon. They cannot be prevented by moral issue pressure alone. Most of them are driven by economic constrained. But these people are better than a lazy man. For so very long years, no matter how the church has condemned, still prostitution exist. The state no matter how they punished this matter, yet it still exist.

This is a universal issue started from the ancient world and yet it is still an issue nowadays.

How our religion and faith could help the people involved in prostitution?

In this craft there are young children involved, ages between 10 and 16 above. Some are products of broken families, victims of drug addiction, sexual and physical abuse, and depressed teenagers and of course, the spousal abuse.

I'm not here to evangelize...but when you ask what is wrong with prostitution, I think of this:

1. Possible spread of disease. The average prostitute comes in contact with 15 to 25 men PER DAY. Further, the average prostitute costs $75, with streetwalkers taking a large chunk to polarize this percentage. Otherwise, taking the streetwalker off the calculation, it would be $150. This price usually becomes affordable to the lower, most sexually-diseased members of our population. Unfortunate, but simply playing by the numbers, it's the reason you should wear a rubber, if ever.

2. Prostitutes, the majority being the streetwalkers again, are 9 to 10 times linked to drug usage, possession, or distribution. So they basically become the pawns in the distribution game of drugs and other illegal substances.

3. Crime follows these women, and are often the cause or the victims of most INITIAL criminal attacks. Be it a serial killer, a crime of passion, or masochistic practice-turned-wrong, prostitutes are the weakest link in this category.

4. Bodily speaking, if not by disease, there is the area of vaginal infections, which can, additionally, perpetuate diseases. But leaving diseases aside, infections are at the top of the ladder, somewhere along getting infected with HIV and stuff. It's just not too normal to have sex 5,500 times a year.

Probably pleasurable for a committed and loving, adventurous couple, but for a prostitute, it's physically, psychologically, and emotionally weakening, not to mention spiritually devastating.

5. And subsequently, a combination of all 4: Suicide.

Other than this, prostitution is fine and dandy.

It's the world's oldest career.
People that become prostitutes are generally below the poverty line, or have drug addictions, etc. But even if we eliminate those problems we'd still have prostitution. It's a self esteem issue. People don't think they are worth anything so they accept money for sex because they feel that during that time someone "cares" about them.

Because America has this tradition of marriage. If prostitution became legal it would destroy a lot of marriages. A lot of people wouldn't get married either because it would be too easy for them to get the loving/sex they wanted. Simple as that. I don't see anything wrong with it. The whole European and Asian continent legalizes prostitution. I had the time of my life over there too. I was a single soldier once in Germany stationed there I was in the Army.

I actually support Prostitution, if it's legalized. Once that's done, you greatly reduce the dangers of STDs as well as underage prostitution, it'll still be there but harder as they can no longer hide under the whole prostitution umbrella. But women in this country will NEVER allow that. Sex is a woman's biggest women, she loses that and she loses a lot of the leverage she has over a man.

I think it is terrible about the children that get involved in prostitution, but if the prostitute is over 21 and working because she wants to then what right do we have to step in and tell her it's wrong? There are plenty of women and or men out there who will give it away for free, so if someone is stupid enough to pay for a peice of a** then that should be their own business.

Lets just say this... what is the chances of spreading STDs?
Supposedly 3 out of four sexually active teens will have an std, a prostitute has a much higher risk. Despite religion and all that.. I think it is morally wrong to infect others with something that could kill or majorly ruin their lives.

Your argument doesn't hold water, and here's why. You're suggesting that prostitution is okay because the church has condemned it, but it remains. Laws have been made against it, but still it remains.
You can say exactly the same thing about theft. It has been with us since the beginning of time. Laws and the church has been against it, but still it remains. That doesn't mean that theft and robbery are not wrong.
The same with murder, as old as the world itself.

If have intercourse with any person other than you spouse, and that "service" is repaid in money, housing, food, clothing, insurance, and an automobile or with jewelry or care for the woman's children, then they are a prostitute.

A "Kept" Man or a "Kept" is still a prostitute.

I don't think a single prostitute would be helped by religion...
many of whom already go to church on a regular basis.

And I still don't believe in paying for anything I can carefully get for free...

It's really quite simple. Stop treating women and children as property (sexist and ageist) and remove women and children from poverty roles.

And BTW: Prostitution is about power, not sex, same as rape. Again the roots are engendered in a sexist culture(s).
