I was serving jury duty in Queens, and got to watch from across the river. The courthouse was uptown a good ways, so all I really saw was the plume of smoke.

I lost two friends to it. One worked in the restaurant on the top floor of tower 2, the other was a fireman with ladder 52.

I was living in the farthest northern part of the city at the time, and had to make my way home on foot for about ten. I went through a heavily middle eastern neighborhood. The local police station was cordoned off, with full military weaponry showing in the front. Arabs were gathered everywhere discussing the event. Some were, as is often said, overjoyed and promising the crowds that this was just the first wave, but the majority of middle eastern New Yorkers were shouting them down, saying things like, "Leave your ugly war over there... leave America alone."

I never saw anyone dancing in the street that day. I did see many New Yorkers helping one another, regardless of race or age or political demeaner. At the time, that was a hopeful thing in the midst of the anguish and fear.

Within a year, I saw New Yorkers feared and distrusted one another. 9/11 brought the best out of us at first, but all the relentless lies and propaganda afterward divided us.

At this time, we have become a divided nation. It seems to me, and I really wish I was wrong about this, that that was the purpose of the event, and that our current administration has sought political advantage from the divisions.

I am not one of the ones who thinks they were complicit, but I do believe they cashed in on it bigtime, and have done our country a major disservice by using the event to further a not-so-secret agenda of domination.

I feel I have lost my country; but I intend to help get it back.

I was there. I was living in Brooklyn at the time and I watched the towers fall from the top of a hill in a park near my house. I worked in Tribeca and was on my way to work when I heard about it. My friend that I was living with and I decided to go to the grocery and get some food because we didn't know what was going to happen and thought we should have food in the house so we drove into Park Slope. The wind was blowing really heavily and all the debris and dirt was blowing over into to Brooklyn. I remember driving down the street and we could barely see anyting because there was just so much dust and debris in the air and I saw a woman walking down the street alone in a wedding dress and it made me feel really sorry for her. The whole thing was so unreal. I think I barely spoke for days after that day.

I was there, a little uptown. I actually got fired that day. I was at a staff meeting. After the meeting, someone yelled that we should look at the tv. The first tower had just been hit. I was in shock. As we watched that atrocity unfold, my boss came in the room and said something stupid like "Ok everyone, you have a job to do". I said something like " are you f------ out of your mind?" He fired me on the spot. I left and tried to get downtown. The subways were closed and a cab driver wouldn't go there. I was near the ABC TV studios where they had tv's set up. It was the most horrible day. P.S. My boss called the next day, apologized, and offered me my job back.
