You have safety lock outs- Are you setting on the Seat, is the Mower deck in park, if thats ok, check the Battery connections, use a jumper cable with mower in Neutral, deck up ,turn on the key, place the ground to a bare metal spot, touch the red jumper to the starter, see if it kicks over. It should.

There is also a Fuse- near the Solonoid.

Does the engine turn over at all or is the tractor completely dead? I am assuming it is completely dead. I would suggest you start with this -- Is the battery charged and are the wires connected to it? Are the battery terminal wires tighly connectd and are they relatively clean? If yes, are the wires to the ignition switch properly connected to the switch? Do you need a key to activate the electrical system before you press the ignition (starter) switch?

There can be numerous things that thi smay be. Unfortunately if your not electrically inclined I would take it to a shop. It could be numerous safety switches. Jump the battery? Jump the selonoid, does the starter engage? If so its a switch somewhere! Could be seat switch, clutch switch, deck switch, ignition switch, fuse etc etc. Start bypssing switches to figure out which one it is and that is, again, if your electronically inclined.

I have an MTD too. Could be the starter, but before you take it somewhere, it could be the seat is not engaging? That safety feature went bad on ours and we disengaged it. I'm not suggesting you do that, of course! It's just what we did. Check if that's the problem is all.

Try jump starting it. If it starts then problem is battery. If not try jumping soleniod, if that doesn't work then could be starter or a safety switch. Possible even the key switch

Turn the key !!! Oh, one of three problems = 1) no fuel to carb, no fire to plugs and/or choking, no air to carb.
