Sean Casey offers a left handed punch that helps balance out the line up.. but what might be lost in all this is his glove, he's one of the best fielding firstbasemen currently playing..
Shelton's defense was at best average.. and DY.. well.. three errors in the boxscore and a couple of mental errors, as well as Riger's errant pickoff throw was charged to Kenny and should have been Young's, Casey already has 'made' the rest of the infield defense better because he will help reduce their errors with his play..

Yes, I think he will be a huge part of our run in the playoffs.
First of all, he bats left handed (which is something The Tigers really needed, especially at home) and he plays a good solid defense.
The best part is that we didnt have to part with much to get him.
I feel bad that Chris Shelton got sent down to Toledo, but it was necessary for him. He'll be back (at the very least in September).
For all the people that think we lack "experience" in playoff situations I say "PHOOEY!"
Jim Leyland has all the experience needed for The Tigers to make a good solid run deep in the playoffs.
Besides, experience does NOT win ballgames---talent does!

Yes, Sean Casey will play an important role...I am a pirates fan and i loved watching him...He puts the ball in play and hits for average...He will not hit for power, he'll get 15-20 home runs a year but thats it...
He provides that Left Handed Spark that they lack in that line up

Casey was far and away the best pickup at the trade deadline...A perfect fit for the Tigers lineup...The further the Tigers go in the playoffs the bigger the difference this guy will make...He's the type of player I could see winning MVP in a playoff/World Series...A .300 hitter who's going to give you a good at bat in the clutch situation.

Yep. They needed his left-handed bat. They needed his fielding even more.
And even better, they got someone who immediately fit into the camaraderie of the clubhouse - and they didn't have to give up the team's future to get him.
Shelton will be back up from Toledo in a few weeks with a better outlook and all is good.
