American cars seem to be stuck in a timewarp. The design is rubbish, they fall apart and their interiors look like a nasty plastic pimps bedroom. No-one in Europe would be seen dead driving one of those heaps and even Americans are deserting them and buying better European and Japanese cars. Is it any wonder the American car industry is in such a bad way when they produce crap like that?

With the history of American manufacturing it's not surprising. The worst example has to be Henry Ford, who sent the army in to break up a strike. No-one knows how many people died; not just the workers, but their wives and children who were living in a tent city outside the factory.
And then there's the Ford Pinto. It's petrol tank was put under the back bumper.so in a rear end shunt it would burst into flames. Ford management had a meeting to work out what would cost more; move the petrol tank to somewhere more sensible, or pay compensation to the people who died as a result? The petrol tank stayed put. Not only that but Ford had to be forced by a court order to add a flange to stop the petrol pouring out in the event of an accident.
Bosses like to be squillionaires. They don't like to pay wages. Or clean up their toxic waste because they see all that as something that eats into your profit. But wages are not something that eats into your profit, they are a legitimate business expense, without which you don't have a product, or a company.
In Germany there are wage restrictions like you wouldn't believe; bosses are not allowed to pay themselves more than 20 times the pay of the lowest paid worker. That stops companies ripping off the tax payer by having workers on tax credits while management are earning 6 figure salaries. If German management want their salary to go up, they have to put up the wages of the lowest paid members of staff first.
As for the design...its like the Harley, isn't it. Designed to do one thing; run all day for hundreds of miles on a wide straight road. With the twisty turny lanes we have here you want a sports bike or a trail bike, you do. Who here can afford to run an american car?

For some reason if you ding an american car it blows up. It must be the amount of petrol that they have to put into those fat engines. No wonder america is responsible for most of the worlds pollution.
That being said, my favourite car is the 1969 Dodge Charger.

To the guy above me, there is a difference between horsepower and performance. Oh and the way that you worded your answer makes it sound like you're saying "we need big cars because we are fat, europeans are skinny so their cars are smaller".

I'll tell you overweight, stetson wearing jackasses why japanese cars are built in america, 'cos it's CHEAP. You guys just get underpaid mexicans to do your hard work.

Well, lemme think about this one.
If European cars are superior, then Americans would be demanding them here.
Since American are not demnding European cars, other than MB,BMW,VW, and a few exotics, then, I would have to surmise that American consider American cars to be the better choice.
As for Japanese cars...
Dude, here's a reality check...
Most Jap cars are built here in the states.
Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Hyundai. All of 'em have plants here.

You're just a moron with an uninformed opinion.

You must never have to work with your truck. When you need real power to pull something, you gotta have American. At least our vehicles are comfortable and have the power to move down the road. If we lived in a little country like in Europe or Japan, then we would only need a little car or truck. When you have to haul a heavy load or pull something heavy, gotta have that American horsepower. Nothing else will do it.

I do not agree that American cars are as bad as you suggest, however, there is no question that they are inferior to their German, Swedish and Japanese counterparts;
Several reasons.
American manufacturing plants are controlled by unions. Costs are high, ability to fire is hindered.
The Unions spend a great deal of time and effort convincing Americans that it is un-American to buy foreign cars, even though Hondas and Toyotas are built in Tennessee, Kentucky, etc.
American manufacturers concentrate on quantity over quality, as another answerer mentioned.
The main reason..................
Because they continue to build an inferior product for a similar price and gullible Americans keep buying them. Why should they do better? They make more money this way as long as we keep buying them.

even although Amercian autos are transforming into lots greater effectual with the aid of fact the eighty's and early ninety's, lots of people who have been given stung throughout that factor switched to greater effectual-made foreign places autos. they have not have been given any reason to swap lower back now with the aid of fact the foreign places autos stored getting greater effectual and greater effectual, on an analogous time as Amercian autos have been additionally getting greater effectual. the toddlers of those human beings have grown up with foreign places autos and heard their mum and dad communicate approximately their undesirable studies with American autos, and now purchase foreign places autos themselves. as quickly as the swap has been made, that's totally puzzling for American automobile makers to get shoppers to swap lower back. there is purely no compelling reason to swap lower back.

I know! No style, no class. I made better bogeys out of a plank of wood and some pram wheels when I was 10. And what is the point of a 'Ute'? Just get a trailer, for goodness sake.

Because fuel is cheap they don't make economic vehicles.

Because their roads are so big they make massive cars unsuitable for any other country.

and...

Because their roads are so straight they make cars with poor handling.
