I think that the government has been using their own personal religious agendas lately to choose what is best for the rest of the country. Right now other countries have legalized gay marriage, such as Canada.
We are supposed to be a free country, one that gives its' citizens the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness but then people like our current president and other conservatives step in and use their strict religious beliefs into the decision making process and decide that two people who love each other cannot marry simply because they are of the same sex. That deprives them of many rights that married couples take for granted and that is not fair. The constition was built as a foundation to give people rights by separating church and state and more and more I see that our government is using religion as a way to enforce their political beliefs. Abortion is another good example of that. I hope gay marriage is legalized.
Right now in Massachusetts gay couples have the right to get married but the current governor is trying to have it overturned because his religious beliefs state that marriage should only be between a man and a woman. I think our country has taken many steps back in terms of personal freedoms....It is hard enough to find happiness as it is but I think once you do find it in the right person you should have the right to marry them no matter who they are and nobody should be able to stop you....

I'm in Canada and gay marriage is already legal, which I support. I don't understand the big deal really, myself and my husband's marriage isn't threatened, it hasn't ended because of this. What happens in people's bedrooms has nothing to do with the quality or sanctity of their or other people's marriages. I guess the 30-40% divorce rate has nothing to do with the cheapening of marriage these days. I think live and let live. Can anyone give a reason other than the bible says so?
Some arguments about children not fairing as well in a Homosexual family are wrong, there have been numerous studies that show there is no difference in children brought up with a woman/man parental structure vs. man/man or woman/woman structure. Actually children with homosexual parents seemed to be more grounded and more tolerant. Also just because you have a traditional family man/woman doesn't mean your a better parent, watch the new read the paper children are being neglected, abused etc. Being gay doesn't make you any less a loving parent.

If it ever gets put on the ballot, I am voting yes. I am sick of the way this administration keeps blowing their Christian attitudes down my throat. Ban gay marriages, stop stem-cell research, abortion, and the list goes on.
I am not a Christian, so why do I have to be told by this moral majority, how to live my life? I am not gay, but feel that everyone should have the right to marry whom they are in love with. I would not have an abortion, but I believe that women have the right to choose what is best for them. I do not have a child dying of a cancer that could have been helped by using stem-cells, but I think that if this benefits mankind, it should continue.
Same sex marriages are banned only for the reason that they cannot reproduce. Insurance companies also have the other big voice in this debate. They do not want to insure same sex couples, like they do married heterosexuals.
I find that the moral majority in this nation, need to stop falling back on the way this nation was started. It is old and out dated. This nation has grown past that old freedom and needs to move forward to the present and allow it's people to be free from the tyranny of closed minded person's just like they did when they first started this great nation!

Hmmm Thats a loaded question. You point out alot of good reasons to allow gay marriage, like the govts getting too involved, the govts stopping human beings (gay or not) from being happy etc. But there should be reasons to prevent it. In my opinion homosexuality is NOT normal. Relax everyone, I'm not judging gays, I'm just saying that the idea of a man having sex with a man and the same for women, just doesnt seem right. Anyway, back on track. My answer to that question is a yes and a no. Yes, because I am so tired of this govt getting involved in the personal lives of the American people, it disgusts me. So, let the gays of America be happy. The president and his cabinet are not ever going to change them, so let them be. The reason for my "no" answer, is once you have a marital union between these gay lovers, then some or most of them will want children and I think that would be extremely unhealthy for a child to grow up in that environment. So, does America let them marry and restrict their right to raise children? Or let them marry and raise children and pick up the pieces for these children when they are ridiculed in school by their peers, or they become confused with own sexuality when the time is right? There is no black and white answer to this question, so good luck getting the data you need.

I am proud to say that in my country (England) Gay couples can now marry and have the same legal rights as hetrosexual married couples. Frankly...about bloody time too. I am a deeply conventional heterosexual, Christian, woman married to an Army Officer. I would possibly be expected to hold a different view but amongst all my friends, Colleagues & family, there is absolute acceptance that no one's partner should be left financially and emotionally out in the cold if they are bereaved, or not have the right to be publicly declared as in a full partnership. What people do in their bedroom, and with whom is their business and it is not up to anybody to legislate against any loving partnership between adults or to prevent anyone marrying the consensual adult they love.

Yes, i think eventually it will be legalized. We as straight folks havent a leg to stand on. They have organizations spending millions of dollars a year to help them get it passed! It should be legal, but with the understanding that gay couples do not get the same benefits as do straight couples. No tax benefits, etc... its not normal, its not right, but if thats your choice, you pay the consequences just like anything else. The next thing you will see is for monkeys to be getting special priviledges, because they are so close to mankind. This needs to stop. I say legalize the marriage, but dont give them any special treatments, and they cant get the advantages. I think they should be allowed into hospitals as partners, etc... but no financial gains for it!

Ok ok, in all seriousness. I think that gays should be allowed to marry. Love is love and government really shouldn't try to relegate it to only a man/woman committment. I think we'll have another 100 years or more pass before such a thing would ever be considered by the Catholic church, but I think that the US Government will hopefully come around. If not in this decade, then hopefully by the next.

It will not, be in this country as long as we have any intelligence and any ties to our roots as a nation. Gay marriage goes against the Christian traditions of our founding fathers. Many, many studies have proven that it does not result in healthy, well-adjusted children when compared to hetro parents. Even this nations most liberal judges are saying that the state bans against marriage are constitutional, so on this issue, legislation from the bench, for once, isn't happening.
BTW, the guy before me QuestionWyrm seems to be ignorant of the definition of a Theocracy. A Thocracy is where GOD is your ruler, not man. To my knowledge, the Federal Government is still in charge in the USA. :-)

I am a Christian, and while I know that being a homosexual is wrong, I do believe that it will eventually be legalized in America. I don't agree with it, but, unfortuately I believe it will happen. I think that having a Christian in the office as president (Bush) is the best thing that could happen to this country, but as soon as he gets out, and a non-Christian comes in, I believe that it gay marriage will be legalized. As for the man that said something about Christians being tolerant, we aren't supposed to. We are supposed to stand up for God and his word, even if it makes people upset. I don't treat people badly if they are a homosexual. However, I do not go out of my way to speak to them. I think the govornment is right in making it illegal. I know that everything the Bible says is wrong is eventually going to be made okay on Earth, but I hope that Christians don't lose our boldness and continue to STAND UP FOR WHAT IS RIGHT IN GOD'S EYES.

I think gay marriage will be legalized eventually. It might be hard to believe for some, but I'm convinced it WILL happen. It was probably just as hard for the folks back in the day to imagine that one day racial segregation would be done away with.
In a truly civilized country, there's no excuse to discriminate against well-meaning law-obiding citizens, no matter on which premise.
