A lot has changed since then. The Republicans party hasn't been progressive since Teddy Roosevelt left office. The Democrats have held a pretty firm grasp on minorities, labor, and the poor since the New Deal.

No, not necessarily. The parties change faces and dogma gradually over time. Example,
Democrats like, FDR and Kennedy wouldn't recognize the Democratic Party right now.
Lincoln probably wouldn't been down with Republicans right now. If FDR was President right now he would probably be kick a whole lot more @SS right now than diplomacy. This guy took being attacked very seriously and took it to the people who did it, and showed the world you don't F with us, not a current Democrat position.
Lincoln looked domestically, saw the economic Gulf between North and South. He saw that it was the greatest perall to Americas future. He was right. He focus all of his presidency on Domestic issue. Not currently a Republic position. The two parties are always changing.

Currently Democrats are of the mind that the Federal and State Governments should solve all of the citizens problems, instead of the citizens solving them for themselves.
What this creates is a stronger government than the people it Governs. A platform such as this is a man giving you a fish eveyday but never teaching you to fish so that you are dependent on him, thus he controls you.Their Forien policy is to put band aids on global problems until the body seizes and it is do or die time for surgery.

Republicans are currently the party of Commerce. They do not believe the Government should solve all of the citizens problems, but that the citizens through their faith should help themselves an each other. Nice on paper but, but Religion is dangerous, if not weilded wisely people historically get hurt. They obviously believe in a Strong Foreign policy anything ultimatelt that henders future commerce must be squelched.

There are other parties like the Libretarians, Greens etc.Libretarians seem to be the best third party, they have some good ideas and more of them than the greens.

lincoln reluctantly freed the slaves..in a letter that he wrote he said if he could avoid it he would not free the slaves but he needed them to help fight and win the war. As for the blacks being republican, they were republicans until the republican party turned their backs on them..they then joined the democratic party who has taken them for granted also.

Its so sad, that thats why Bush got all your "Votes" just because of Lincoln being a Republican!!! How sad, is that, today's times, are so "Totally" different from when Lincoln was Prez, he was more like the Democrats, are today, and I think the Black race needs to wake-up, and smell the Republican-Parties messes!!!! Look at what, Bush is doing to our, "Now Poor, in Trillions of dollar debts!!!" Just becuase, Lincoln was a "Republican, does not make it okay, to vote for All Republican's " from then, on!!! Read about who you are voting for.....You do know you can change your "Party" dont you?? God Help us all, if you dont think you can change!!! And God help our "Country" if thats the only reason, Republicans, are always going to get your votes!!! That's just a Darn Shame!!! Its called look at their "Track-Record" read up on both Candidates!!! See, who seems "Best-Fit" for the Job!! Do you know how many white "Republicans" voted for Bush, who now regret, ever doing it!!! This is so "Sad" and really depressing to me , to hear this!! I have to go , now!! Boy-oh-Boy, is our Country in Trouble, especially when all Republicans know now that they'll always have your votes!! So, if one of the "Running-Mates" was the "AntiChrist" in disguise, does that mean, he's definately got your vote, too??? Because, I wouldn't be "Surprised" if Bush, or "Cheney" were, indeed the "AntiChrist" they've gotten our Country into such a "Mess"!! Wake-Up, America!!! And look, before you leap!!! Or we're really in for, some Poor-Dumb-A--, Presidents, to come!!!! Just like the one, we already have!!! How Sad, is that!!! Just to sad , for words, the guy cant even , talk, without talking in circles, around all of us!!! Wake-Up, America!!!

No, that was some time ago and things have changed in this country since that time. The Republican party has changed as have the Democrats. Each person should choose their party based on their own research and beliefs.

If my father was a Clan's man ( he wasn't) does that mean I must also be a Clans man. NO. What is truly nice about freedom is the ability to chose for yourself.
