is this possible?

or is it possible that I can just move programs onto my D:\ drive into my other program folder, and have programs and files recognize the change.

Just copy and paste the entire my documents folder to the larger drive and create a desktop shortcut to point at the new location. After doing this make sure that the shortcut works and delete the files (not the folder) from your c drive. Your programs will need to be re-installed using the custom install option instead of the typical and change the drive letter to D:\ when prompted for a location. Most programs you can just change the c to d and it will install it to the correct drive. Good luck.
