Hmmm. If your favorites are Nicholas Sparks, the Nanny Diaries and Fear Street, something inconsistent with them would be a book of non-fiction.
The Girl in the Picture, by Denise Chong, is fascinating reading. If you're old enough to remember the Viet Nam war, you will recall the picture of a little girl, naked, running down the street after a napalm attack. Her clothing had burned off during the napalm attack.
Denise Chong has traced the history of that little girl, found out where she lives, what her life has been like since the bombing and tells her story, weaving it in with the history of the times and Nixon's politics.
It's a compelling read and is certainly inconsistent with what you have been reading ;-)

King Fortis the Brave about a pair of twins that are pulled into a magical realm and caught up in the battle against a wicked sorceress that is trying to overtake the land. A great book full of action and humor that I found hard to put down!

Absolutely read the Evanovich series, starting with One For The Money. TOOOOO funny and great from page one!
Consider The Secret Life Of Bees, I like similar books to yours and loved this one so much, I got the hc version to keep.
Also, I bet you will love The Gazebo and other books by Emily Grayson. Let me know what you think!
PS I loved Time Travelers Wife, try it! Also, The Confessions of Max Tivoli by Greer...ohmygosh, I just spent 15 min looking for the title for you. You HAVE to at least see if you like it. It's listed at Amazon.com

Try "The Devil Wears Prada"
It's along the lines of the Nanny Diaries.
Or try anything by Meg Cabot- like The Boy Next Door.

If you like Nicholas Sparks books, I think you will like Jennifer Crusie's books. They aren't deep like the Sparks books, but I think you will enjoy them, but they do all have happy endings, so there are no surprises. Good luck, hope you like them.
p.s. I see many some people have recommended the Evanovich series. Those are great too.

"The Time Travelers Wife" is fantastic! (Audrey Neffineger-sp?)
Try Diana Gabaldon. She's not too different from what you're reading, but not quite the same.
Mary Stewart too...
