Neither, both are a ton! But the feathers take up a lot more volume.

Feathers-Let me explain
A ton of feathers is heavier since feathers are weighed by avoirdupois weight while gold is weighed in troy (or apothecary) weight and 1 ton = 2000 Ib , 1 lb. avoirdupois = 1.21528 lb. troy. The precious metals, such as gold, silver, platinum and palladium, are usually quoted in troy ounces while most of our measurements (in the U.S.) are in the avoirdupois system.

Tyler has part of the story.
gold is measured in troy ounces.
feathers are meastured in avoirdupois ounces.
however, once we get to tonnes, we are talking 1000 kg of each, so does not matter. 1T = 1T
so a troy oz and an avoirdupois oz are not the same.
also a troy pound and an avoirdupois pound are not the same
but, a ton is a ton. <- this is where Tyler and I disagree

both weigh the same----weight is a measure of the gravitational force and 'one ton' is a quantity of weight.
