What fun things can companies do to keep their employees happy?

I'm looking for creative ways of helping people at my company feel appreciated and motivated and making the company feel like a fun place to work.

Hand out surprise cash bonuses. No qulifications. just random selections. No regularity. Simply surprise someone at the coffee machine occasionally.
It doesn't have to be a large sum. 50,100. Whatever amount seems appropriate.
Make a contest. One that everyone has a real chance at. Not something that disqualifies almost everyone but the biggest producer or brown noser. With a nice prize. Not just "reserved parking for a month". More like a weekend trip for two to a regional retreat.

Finding creative ways to reward employees is not the hard part. The hard part is finding the motivation to actually reward employees. Most employers give lip service to this idea.
Be different. Find a reason to reward, instead of finding a reason to deny.

themed fridays if possible, award programs, general praise from management, bonuses, prizes for attendance or just do a monthly giveaway with things like gift certs or cards. decorate your office in a fun way. celebrate everyone's birthday at lunch.

Any chance to get "EXTRA" money is always good. For instance, perfect attendance for six months gets you a $100 gift certificate, or something like that.

less formalities and more buddy to pals relationship(between higher-ups & whtevr lower class bee) and employ everyday event chief or manager, or something like that -maybe someone like Onizuka Eikithi -so there would be something fun or interesting at work everyday
