I have a medical agency that wont accept 20.00 a month payment and will take me to court if i dont pay the 3000.00 bills. Isn't there a law that they have to accept what i can afford?

I'm afraid not.

Can you put the total amount on a credit card?

Can you afford $50 a month? Talk to them and find out what they would accept per month. If you can't afford it, you need someone on your side with clout who can negotiate a payment schedule for you. Call Consumer Credit Counseling.

If the "agency" is a non-profit, they can not sue you for not paying if you are making a good-faith effort to pay off the bill. But not all hospitals and medical centers are "non-profit". There in lies the problem.

If they have turned you over to collections, call the place and speak to them - more than likely they will work out some sort of payment arrangement that you both can agree upon. They don't want to take all of your money - they want the money owed to them. Explain your situation, and write down your pay and the bills you already owe on. They will work with you.

They can't take you to court so long as you make monthly payments. This shows that you are making a fair attempt to pay the charge that you owe. Tell them to cease and desist, or you will file a complaint with the FCC because of their unfair collection practices. Check the link below for more information.

Call their bluff. They won't sue, they are a collection agency that bought the debt for 33% of the original amount. They'll write it off if you ignore them. You'll have a charge off on your credit report, and you already have a collection, but you won't be sued.

Sounds like you are dealing with a collection agency. Send them a letter telling them to "cease & desist" and deal directly with the facility or provider.
