Mine were born at 38 and 39 weeks...

I think they are pretty much ready , lungs etc at 36 weeks... if your dr wasn't sure.. he wouldn't take the risk... relax... chances are if your other child was fine.. this one will too...

Dear, the baby will be fine. Anything after 37 weeks is considered full term. My three were born at 42 weeks, 40 weeks, and 38 weeks, and were all a healthy 8 1/2 lbs.

I am assuming the doctor wants to birth the baby early b/c of a previous c-section.

Normal gestation for a human baby is 38 to 42 weeks. Your due date is just the midrange between the two, but it is completely normal and typical to give birth anywhere in that span of time. A 38 week old baby is considered fully developed and ready to be born.

However, you might want to discuss with your doctor her choice of performing the C-section at the beginning of the 38th week. It is possible that there is a valid medical reason for choosing such an early date, but it would be best to bring the topic up. If you find that there is no valid medical reason for not waiting until the 40th week, it would be best if you request that the C-section be postponed until then. Although delivery at 38 weeks is perfectly safe and normal, the closer a baby comes to 40 weeks, the better developed, adapted, and ready for the outside world he will be. Provided there is a medical reason, though, for the early C-section, you and your baby will be perfectly fine.

I have known many women, friends and family, who have given birth before their due date, many at 38 weeks pregnant. Pregnancy is highly individual, and varies from one woman to another. Keep in mind that your due date is just an estimate, too. Only the baby knows when he will be ready to make his appearance into the world. =)

Congratulations and good luck!

Your baby will be fine.

I don't however understand...why people don't let nature take it's course...If the baby was supposed to come out at 38 weeks...that's when your water would break and your contractions would start and the baby would be born...

Why do we women allow someone elses vacation plans determine when it's time for us to give birth???

I know natural childbirth is not as popular as it used to be but come on people...if it was suppossed to happen according to some schedule...it would.

We'd all know in advance that on the 5th day of the 38th week at 2pm or whatever...we'd go into labor.

It's not supposed to be like that...you should let your baby come when he's ready...not when your doctor isn't tied up with his tee time.

Why would he schedule you so early - they really should wait to see how things are going closer to November. I would say if you are not comfortable with that date then you are the mother you should tell him you would rather wait a week and find out his reasoning for not. He is the doctor but sometimes I don't think they always know best. I have 2 children born one at 41 weeks and one at 39.5 weeks I am 36 weeks pregnant with my third and READY but I know that the longer the baby stays the better.

Calm down! You are fine. A baby is considered full term at 36 weeks. It is perfectly normal if he wants to take the baby early, he probably just doesn't want you to go into labor first. You sound like you are a wonderful mommie. Congratulations, and everything will be ok. Let your doctor/nurse know your concerns! I wish you the best of luck!

Your baby should be fine! I had a planned c-section at 38 weeks, and my little one came out healthy at 7 lbs and 21 inches. As you get closer, your doctor will monitor you more closely and if he/she feels the baby isn't ready, then he/she won't take him out. Good luck!

The baby should be fine They can do tests to check and see if the babies lungs are developed. I would question why they are going to take the baby instead of allowing it to go to term. Is it because your doctor is going on vacation? Not a good enough reason. If it is because going to full term may not be good to you or the baby then that is a good enough reason.
