I have installed avast as my norton 2005 and 2006 subscription expired. Can I download norton 2006 with one year subscription for free. Is there any other free efficient ANTI VIRUS, please let me know.

I think Avast is OK.
I use all the following programs together.
(Never use 2 anti-virus together as they will cause problems.)
I use all of the following Free software with Windows XP SP2 and Internet Explorer with MSN toolbar and the pop-up blocker turned on and have never had a single problem with my computer sense Microsoft came out with SP2. (knock on wood.) (And be sure to keep Windows and the following software Updated)
The best Anti-virus is: AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition. (www.grisoft.com)
The Best Spyware defense is: SpyBot Search and Destroy (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html)<--English version
AND: AdAware SE (www.lavasoft.com)
AND Spyware Blaster (http://www.javacoolsoftware.info/kb/)
The best Firewall besides the one that comes with Windows is: Zone Alarm (http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/co... or just (www.zonelabs.com) and select the FREE version.
These are all FREE and are all that are required. There is no reason to pay for this kind of software, except to give a donation to the writers if you can.
ALL the above programs are recommended and should be run on a regular basis. With some the free versions they must be run manually.
The best way to avoid getting any Malware (virus, Trojan's, spyware, etc) is to practice safe computing. Microsoft and many others have countless articles on the subject of safe computing. (something I think should be taught in schools)

That's like asking everyone "what is your favorite cereal"...
you'll get many differing opinions.
As for me, I highly recommend AVG Free Edition....
I replaced my Norton 2002 a couple of years ago and have felt secure and never had a problem. The AVG Resident Shield monitors my system and email and is always automatically updated to the latest definitions.

Yes, you are very safe. AVAST is an excellent program, although it is free. AVG is considered as less cumbersome and, also, provides free updates. Many free AV and AS programs, that are free, require payment for the updates.

I really like AVG free Antivirus. I think it works as good as Norton without the cost.

hi, Avast is good enough. Perhaps you can try Norton or Macfee to remove the virus. but you need to pay for the software.
i also recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar. firefox can disable all virus to run, because the virus can only run on IE.
besides, firefox can block any any poppus and disable any virus and adware, spyware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE. as you know, most of the virus is spread throught internet and webpage.
firefox is much smaller than IE, so i run faster than IE.

It is good antivirus, however i use ZoneAlarm because it gives me more custom control over my system.
If you want Norton, Yahoo is offereing 30-day free trial, go to Y!downloads for that.

Avast is pretty good, although it is a bit cumbersome. I suggest using AVG.
