I've never really understood raising the minimum wage. I know that sounds crazy, but if you raise the minimum wage, won't you have to raise everyone else's wage too? I mean, it doesn't seem fair that jobs in fast food are getting a raise when other jobs that require a college degree, like for people in social work or the education field, don't get one. It seems to me that it's a heirarchy and that raising one means you have to raise others too.

Most people with college degrees work in ares where at least a cost of living raise is given . Minimum wage employees do not always get a cost of living raise most of these jobs are taken by unskilled workers and have large turn overs.I think there should be a raise in minimum wage but not the 41% the Dem's. want the cost of living has increase 2.6% since the last increase.By raising it 41% I think a lot of small business owners will be forced to lay off some of their work force and cause a huge jump in unemployment.

An increase in the minimum wage results in a higher cost of living. That means that generally, the people making minumum wage actually wind up with less buying power than more. The only way to jump ahead of this is by increasing the minimum greatly.

But that risks job cuts, sending many of the minimum wage earners to unemployment. Increases in minimum wage have to be timed when the economy is good, not when it is rocky, that leads to inflation and unemployment.

In the past the adjustments in the minimum wage did not trickle up. Meaning that if you were below the minimum you were brought up to the new basement salary, if you were already above it you didn't get an increase.

Bingo!!! You win....it does....most unions have their hourly rates tied to the minimum wage...why do you think they are always pushing for the increase.

Not everybody gets a raise every year.....most professional jobs are raises based on merit like mine...my raise this year didn't even meet the inflation rate, so I guess I will have to prove myself more this year.

raising the mimimum wage should be for every one but we all know that it don't work out for the ones who really need the extra money. I never understood this either. maybe they will make the wage increase for everyone this time around

I agree that you should be paid what you are worth and if its 5.15 and hour then it is. Why give people who dont deserve raises a raise. At my job, I have to prove that I am worth it, I dont just get a raise every year. And alot of times, the raises that we get dont meet inflation anyway. I am tired of people feeling they are just entitled to stuff. It is not our government's job to support you, we all have opportunities to improve our lives, those that are too lazy or stupid to do that dont deserve it.

Those other jobs you mentioned get raises every year. Why do think they don't?
