I am just wondering what in the world this phrase means.I was embarrased when he said that in front of the class. Everyone was looking at me funny like something was wrong with me.

Throughout history those people who have made a difference in the world were smart and often thought of as "crazy." They were different in some ways, and society often interprets different as strange or crazy. I would take the comment as a compliment more than anything else.

Most crazy people think out of the box. So if you are smart and think out of the box you may one day find a cure for cancer, aids, and other unsolved mysteries. I sure hope someday you will find BigFoot. Because only someone with a high IQ and crazy enough to look for him will find him. So being smart and 'crazy' is a good thing. But I totally disagree with your prof calling you crazy. Its rather insulting if you think about it. A better word would have been eccentric. So if I were you, I would use your high IQ and crazy ideas to conspire to get back at him and find a way to give him diarrhea or something nasty like that.

Being smart is being smart. He probably didn't mean it like "Are you getting smart?" as in "Are you talking back?"

Crazy, is out of the box, individualistic, and creative. You'd be amazed how many people are not. Crazy is good.

You shouldn't have been embarrassed. You should have smiled as said thank you.

Well...
Being smart and crazy IS a good thing.
No sense being smart and SHY, or smart and QUIET.
You'll never get anything accomplished.

If you're smart and crazy you can do what you want and get things done!

Basically. You can do crazy things and get them done in a smart way. haha
You can take risks but pull them off.

Well that's my 2 cents :D

sometimes "smart and crazy" means that you don't take the "common sense" answer as good enough. Sometimes it means you are willing to ask questions other people don't ask.

but, to me, the best part, is that you can be crazy enough to believe that just because other people failed at X, it doesn't mean that YOU will fail at it, too.

some people would call Edison crazy for working on the light bulb filament as long as he did.

sorry everybody looked at you funny; i know that can be really uncomfortable.

well i think it means sumthing like being smart but also being open to wild ideas. and with ur knowledge u can make these crazy ideas into a reality? this reminds me a lot of the nintendo president, satory iwata, who created the first dual touch screen on a portable game, and the wii which allows you play by moving a "wiimote"

He was just telling you that you're intelligent and creative, but he tried to say it in a funny way. Don't worry, he's right, that is a good thing. You'll find as you get older, that your friends who are just a little crazy are way more fun to hang out with.

He might have been saying that is is okay to be imaginative and think outside of the box when trying to find a solution to a problem or issue.

Being smart is obvious. Crazy I would say you could come up with outlandish ideas that no one else would have come up with.
