I am prepared for the asinine answers, but would like some insight on what other women feel about and how many times they douche. Do you think it really makes a difference? (men are welcome to answer this also) and what works best for you, brand wise.

Wow, you have no idea how informative this has been for me. I have never douched and have never had any problem, but have always just wondered. My mother obviously wasn't too big on the 'girlie' talks. I think I will continue not doing it since so many say it is more harmful than good. Thanks all!

Don't bother. All you need is to bathe regularly. Don't be shoving chemicals up in there.

Douching....according to some (physicians included) is something women should not do. I personally feel that the best (and most necessary times) to do so is after your cycle and sex (especially if you are very sexually active). Although when women have their cycle, that is their "self-cleaning mode", simply applying good hygiene (shower/ bath) doesn't seem to be enough. So a little extra attention is required.

Depending on how sexually active you may be, you should consider douching also. Not that it helps prevent STD's or pregnancy, but it does elevate the "dirty feeling" our body may have.

As far as how often you should douche is really dependent upon your personal preference.

Personally I do not by store bought douches. Our bodies are not intended for flower scents or anything of that nature. Vinegar and water is always the best choice. I am more old school when it comes to douching. Get a douche bag, especially if you are looking for a more thourough cleaning. Simply mixing vinegar and water is the best.

I myself have never douched but my partner has one time. The only reason she douched was because she was having some odor and abnormal discharge. When she douched about a day later everything was MUCH better. I think the only time someone should douche is when a woman is experiencing some odor, abnormal disharge or just when you feel dirty. For women who have sex frequently with different men douching would also be something they should consider. I do however know that douching over twice a month is not good for you because upon douching you kill both good and bad bacteria. Too much of it will destroy the balance your body naturally creates for you.

If you douche too often it will flush out the good bacteria in your vagina and break down the defenses against things like yeast infections. My doctor told me that it was okay/safe to douche after your period with a vinegar douche, but the other kinds would (in my case) cause irritation and most likely infections. So, I'd just stay away from them. They don't do your body any good. If you are doing it because you smell, you most likely have a type of infection and need to go to your doctor. The smell may go away after a douche, but the infection can be made worse by it.

I have a friend who douches religiously after her period. I have known many women who do not douche at all. I know of no differences.

I have heard that douching is actually not good because it pushes bacteria and other "foreign" stuff further inside where it does more damage than good.

I'm no expert and am just passing along what I know or have heard.

From what I have always read and most OB/GYN's say you shouldn't do this because it actually encourages bacteria growth which only makes odors worse. Basically, when you douche, the bacteria gets washed out, but your body should have some in there naturally and when you wash it out the rest of your bacteria freak out that things are out of balance and go nuts making lots more(too much), which is how you get yeast infections etc... I would ask my female doc for their opinion. Also the vaginal dryness thing is something else I have heard them say can result.

Wow...this is such an opportunity for a smart a$$ like me to have a field day..and I'm drawing a blank!
Well...in the case where I can't harrass and bother..I opt to offer real sage advice.
I think it's important that a woman feels god about herself. So..if a woman feels 2 times a day works..fine. If..on the other hand..she's a real douche...like say..Hillary Clinton...well..there isn't enough water.

I love to bathe in the bathtub instead of showering. I have a big hot bath every week at least once. With candles, and foaming bath and all kind of things. Is that what you were asking?
i think it makes a difference, I feel relaxed after a bath. A shower is quick and I don't like it.

Look below for some info on douching and why it is dangerous and unnecessary.

I personally have never done this. I always wash myself twice a day and I never smell or feel dirty down there and my husband is happy. LOL

After my period I always douche. It makes me feel much cleaner. It makes a big difference to me. The brand doesn't matter to me but I always use vinegar and water ones.
