"Who the fk said that Andrew Jackson was a liberal icon? Lincoln is neocon celeb"

I never said that thats for sure. I said ":Andrew jackson was the founder of the democratic party." He must be an icon of the dems. Go visit new orleans you'll see his statue and streets are all named after him. Not to mention his pic. on a 20 dollar bill. So DEMS must view him as an icon.

"and yes Lincoln is appreciated and well liked by many repubs. He was a uniter not a divider, Dems don't understand how important the union is thats why they shot lincoln. Dems want division within our country.

You do understand that the parties have changed over the past 150 years, right?

If the last Republican you can point to who did anything for civil rights was Lincoln (who did not free all the slaves), you might understand why the Democrats are seen as being better about such things.

Very convenient of YOU to ignore 140 years of history after Lincoln's death. Let me fill you in. The South was Solidly democrat until the 1948 election when Strom Thurmond ran on the Democratic States Rights Ticket for President. Southern Democrats were uneasy with northern democrats support for civil rights. In the Sixties, Kennedy and then Johnson supported civil rights and the democrats ultimately passed the Civil Rights Act of 1965 and the Voting Rights Acts of 1963. These courageous actions basically lost the White House for the Democrats in 1968, when Nixon employed his "Southern Strategy" to win over disgruntled racist democrats in south to the Republican Party.

Ever since Nixon's victory in 1968, republicans have pandered to that constituency in their party, as evidenced by Reagan kicking off his campaigns at Bob Jones University and in Montgomery Alabama, as well as the W Bush campaign in South Carolina against McCain where thousands of phone calls were made asking voters if they knew about "McCains Black Baby". Democrats have solidly supported minority rights since the 1960's.

No democrat I know denies that Jackson was a racist regarding his treatment of the Indians.

You will get deservedly bashed for your ignorant rant that has no basis considering the last 60 years of American history.

Edit: The claim that the "democrats" killed Lincoln is a gross over simplification as is the idea that the democrats didn't understand the importance of the union -- Northern Democrats supported the Union for the most part -- and to say that democrats today don't understand the importance of the union because of what happened 160 years ago is absurd.

Don't forget that if Abe Lincoln could have kept the country together WITHOUT freeing the slaves, he would have done that.

Harry Truman integrated the armed forces

Republicans put up a lot of static THIS YEAR about extening the Voting Rights Act of 1965 (pushed forward by Johnson.)

And what have the GOPs done for Native Americans, since you have this wealth of information at your fingertips?

Weren't Republicans primarily running this country when EVERY SINGLE treaty with the Native Americans were broken between 1870 and 1900?

Who the fk said that Andrew Jackson was a liberal icon? Lincoln is neocon celeb?

Ok so to the point, we are for equal rights for everyone. That means that if you are born you have the ability to make your own decisions. What your are suggesting is that everyone who claims to be a liberal is in the camp of hating Native Americans. Which is just false and ludacris. Your creating what is called a dichotomy that is pretentious at best.

My problem is that i'm for peoples rights, not unborn fetus rights who has to come out of the wound before its a person. I'm for not killing people on death row, until the appeals have been exausted. I'm for not trashing the environment and if you do paying a penalty. I'm for having the right to speak out against killing innocent people thousands of miles away that began on false pretense. It looks to me like i'm for peoples rights here and the argument you have is that i'm compassionate liberal. Where compassionate conservatives are for not giving people the right to kill unborn fetus. People don't have the right to protest enviroment trashing. People don't have the right to want people on death row to complete the appeals process.

What this looks like to me is that republicans are for killing people and rights all accross the board, but want unborn fetus to be given the rights. I have an idea take away all rights to vote for people over the age of one day. Give all the rights to fetus, develop a voting machine that takes into account what the fetus wants and make policy according to what is going on inside the womb. That would work for the neo-cons.

I'm not going to beat around the bush on this issue. The Jacksonian Democrats were heavily racist, but if you look at history, they were on the Conservative agenda. The Jacksonian Democrats became the Republicans of today. The Republicans wanted to represent the basic image of America, and became the new Democrats with the addition of the Liberals.

I wouldn't say so much Democrats as liberals (there were a lot of pro-life Dems in Congress 30 years ago).

I also think it's hypocritical to scream for human rights and then turn right around and support the murder of the most innocent humans--the unborn.

good question. your history is good but not complet with the two pres. for examole jackson was a military man when he did the things in the ques and they were gop driven at the time. as far as honest abe he was a big time lawyer for the rail road and baked the gop with his practice. a word on the civil war his kidds did not fight on the front line much less even get close to combat and the war much like gw bush and his cronies and his kidds and thier kidds. history has nothing but black marks for what the gop has done for the commen person such as hoover, nixon, regan, both bushes. hoover goes without saying bush sr and regan commited high treason but is small in comparesom to the treason of todays bush lead gop.

That's got to be the biggest scam ever. Dems make noise about equality, but play race and gender politics with Affirmative Action, the Voting Rights bill, and now the mexican amnesty.

If one goes back in history - you will find the democrats have a checkered past that really embarrassing. In addition they were infiltrated by the American Commnuist Party in the 30's as well.

Jackson fought off the european central bankers and they had him shot for it
