I have a 2000 Jeep Cherokee and the clutch on the compressor wont engage. I tried to manually force it to engage and it worked for a little while blowing cold air but it eventually stopped. It wont engage at all now. ANyone know why it might not be working?

It is most likely low on freon. The low pressure switch will keep it from engaging when it is low on freon. Take it to a shop and they should put some fluorescent tracer dye in the system and check for a leak. Sometimes it takes a while for the leak to show up so you might have to take the vehicle back in a week or so to have it rechecked with using an ultra-violet light to see where the dye shows up so that it can be repaired.

all auto a/c's have a low pressure switch to prevent the compressor from running when the freon gets low.

the coil may be out of just may not be getting power to the clutch
if its low on freon it wont come on(pressure switch)

check the freon with gages, if you jumped the low freon switch and it worked then you are low or there is a problem with the wires going to it
