I've always had the worst periods: fatigue, nausea, crippling cramps... is there any relationship between period side effects and pregnancy? Am I likely to suffer worse-than-average pregnancy symptoms?

actually, its the opposite, I have awful periods, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, fever, cramps so bad I could cry, at least 7 days, sometimes as much as 14. Pregnancy was a breeze, I was a little nauseous in the morning, but never threw up. I was a little tired, but nothing compared with the fatigue of my period and I had had cramps worse than my contractions. Go figure.

That is a really good question. I had the same concern when I first became pregnant, because my periods were the worst! I would seriously be on the floor crying in the bathroom for hours, and I had the worst cramps imaginable! Plus diarrhea, back aches and throwing up on top of that! To my surprise, my pregnancy has been a breeze so far (knock on wood! haha!) My morning sickness lasted maybe 2 weeks at the most, and I've only thrown up about 4 times since being pregnant. So, I don't think there is a link between the two.

I don't think so. When your pregnant you don't have a period. You shouldn't have cramps or any bleeding. If you do you need to go to the doctor right away because you may be having a miscarriage. You will probably be tired. You are using alot of you protein and iron being pregnant. You probably will have nausea. I wouldn't worry about that unless nothing is helping with it and you cannot keep anything down. Morning sickness whether is nausea or vomiting is a good sign of a health baby. Most women with morning sickness are less likely to have a miscarriage. I was pregnant with my daughter and had the worse morning sickness. I was just pregnant recently and I felt great no sickness at all, well 10 weeks into my pregnancy and I just miscarried the last of my baby yesterday. With pregnancy you may feel a little streaching. When you get further along the only problems you may have are your ribs hurting from the baby pushin on them. the baby will be sitting on your bladder. Breathin was big for me couldn't breath no mater how you moved your body.

Like you i had the same symptoms with my period and I had a very good pregnancy other than the morning sickness. Every pregnancy is different being currently pregnant again i havent had any nausea or other problems. So i would say that there is not a connection between the two everyones body reacts differently

I don't think your period should have anything to do with your pregnancy. I've had a history of awful periods, but with 4 different pregnancies, only one was very difficult. And only one did I had worse than normal cramps, but THAT had to do with weak ligaments. Lots of kiegels and lots of walking made the next two pregnancies not near as painful, in fact, i hardly knew I was pregnant! [am 7 months prego now, no extra discomforts]

Each and every pregnancy is different, with symptoms raging all over the place. So don't be discouraged by just one aspect of your femininity...

I've ALWAYS been like that, there IS a plus side to this...listen up, ...women who dont have much problems with their periods have a HARDER time during labour, the pregnancy will be EASY when you are used to all the pain and aggro of heavy, crippling periods, the insane pain associated with labour is not as bad as you think, for the first part and second, it feels just like your worst ever period, only doubled..when you're not used to the pain already, onset of labour is painful from the start..but as far as the nine (ten ) months of pregnancy, its freedom from all that, honestly

Um i dont think bad periods dictate how your pregnancy is going to go. I have double-me-over cramping yet when i was pregnant it was glorious!! Didnt feel a thing (other than the baby moving). The labour wasnt half bad either. If you are really concerned you can talk to your Ob/Gyn and they can address your concerns.
Good Luck!

I had horrible periods and when I had my first child, I went through labor without any medication saying, "Is that it? I've had worse menstrual cramps than that!"

I hope you have a similar experience. Good luck!

Not really, actually some people say that once you have your first baby your periods will be better. They say the same about the Pill, and it's true. Once I started taking the Pill my periods have been so much better...

I HAVE HAD BAD PERIODS, WITH SAME SYMPTOMS AS YOU, SINCE JUNIOR HIGH. BOTH OF MY BABY'S WERE BORN PREMATURE AND I SUFFERED SEVERE BACK ACHE AND CHRONIC MORNING SICKNESS, NOT TO MENTION THE CRAMPING. DO NOT KNOW IF IT IS RELATED OR NOT BUT I DO HAVE BAD PERIODS TO THIS DAY AND HAD HARD PREGNANCY WITH COMPLICATIONS BOTH TIMES.
