Was 2.88 this morning, (in Marietta, OH), & by noon today they hit $3.15. Can anyone please give a rational explanation for this?

Thank you....

(feeling like someone shoved a gun in my mouth, robbed me & then violated me in the worst possible way)

The Islamic countries that hate America and control the Oil prices are hitting us the only way they know how. Right in the pocket book/wallet. The preisident has no control over any prices in the US, it's a free economy you idiots!!

The real question is why does a bottle of spring water cost over $6 a gallon?

In case you were not aware we live in a capitalistic society. Contrary to what every uneducated person in America believes...there is no "law" that states gas prices must stay within a certain range. Oil companies ULTIMATELY keep their prices where they can get the most money for their product but still have a demand. If gas prices went from $3.00 to $10.00 overnight MANY people simply could not afford that kind of hike...hence they would have no consumers financially ABLE to pay and they would have no profit.

If you think that the oil industry is the only industry that does this...I just have a few comments. Do you think that your Nike tennis shoes cost $60 to produce? Do you think that the fountain soda you buy at McDonald's costs $1.29 to produce? If your answer is yes...you really need to be educated. Nike's cost (on average) $1.50 cents to make...this includes material AND labor. Why aren't you complaining about them? Why is this not gouging? A fountain soda costs $.08...yet you more than likely have paid the $1.29 without complaining.

You have a choice...everyone does. You choose to buy the Nike's over the Payless brand. You choose to buy the fountain soda instead of drinking a glass of water (and paying for water is just ABSURD). Stop buying the 8 cylinder cars and buy a friggin' bike! People in the UK laugh at us because they have been paying $10/gallon for YEARS. They have an advanced transportation system in place, they don't complain about this archaic mode of transportation called walking and they ALTER their lifestyle because they made a choice not to be raped by gas prices they refuse to pay.

The sad reality is...you need to get used to it. It is not going to ever go back down. Modify your lifestyle and make a different CHOICE and stop COMPLAINING already!! I can go on and on about how Bush has screwed up this country...but with this...this is something that Americans will NEVER understand. I just cannot wait until a democrat becomes President so that everyone will see and not blame anymore and then start doing something PRODUCTIVE to avoid being raped by capitalism. The complaining and blaming isn't helping you when you pay at the pump, does it?

Supply and demand. Although this is quite an increase, I don't understand why people complain so much about the normal 10 cent increases. That's an extra $2 every 2 weeks (more or less depending on driving habits).

This a big ripoff by the oil cartels (Exxon, Shell, etc...) they are showing record profits at our expense. But "Inflation is under control". Yes, but who's' control, they don't count energy costs in the calculations. The real numbers are around 20% for the year so far.

Try living in CT. The gas prices are worse than that. 2.88 is extremely cheap.

It cost more to fill up my tank than it does to pay Verizon wireless. Aint that a BiT**. Gas is more than my cell phone bill. There is no explantion, even if there is one who ever has it SHUT THE FU** UP I don't want to hear why I need to pay that much for GAS.

Pyramid head, above, is correct. At current prices, fuel alternatives will be developed, and as a nation, we will become more energy independent. Drive less!

I live in central NY (really rural) and it's been $3.09 for the whole week...I think we can blame the car manufacturers and the US gov't. They need to work more on ethanol, etc...Use what we already have!
