I am asking this because i love my boyfriend, and i think we have come to a point where we need to take it to the next level. However we both feel differently about marriage. He doesnt want to get married. he just wants to have kids. i dont want to be just His Baby Mama i want more than that. I want to be his wife. Can this work out?

Getting married means becomeing one not two anymore. I have been married nearly 8 years. You marry for love and to build a family and become a unit as one but still two seperate people. I mean like you said who wants to be just the babies mama. You want what most people do a family and love. I would question him maybe he is scared it won't work. Maybe you should try to live together if you don't already that helps a lot of people, cause i won't lie it is totally different to live with some one 24/7. If he really loves you then it should be no biggie cause that is the next step. Tell him how you feel and don't get suckered into having kids unless you want to.

I hope it works the way you want but i would really sit down and have a heart to heart with him tell him how you really feel. The love you share won';t change because of marriage it will just get stronger. The purpose is to build a life and create a new one.
Good Luck

marriage is the union of two people, who become one. Sure, each of you will still have your own values, morals and beliefs, but once married all decisions that are made are made as one. Such as finances etc...or even little things like where you will go on vacation. Being married is a wonderful thing, but in some ways you give up part of yourself in order to compromise with someone else. It is also about love, respect and honesty. I have all of those things for my husband and he does for me, so the main purpose of a union is because you want to spend the rest of your lives together, in sickness and health, richer and poorer etc. Marriage is a serious issue and some people do it for the wrong reasons and wind up divorced after a few years. Just make sure you know yourself and you are both happy in making a decision to get married, otherwise the other person may feel trapped.

Different answers for different people. One can say "love" - but you don't have to get married to be, and stay, in love. I think, a lot of it is about social pressures and expectations. It's not quite "right" to be together for a long period of time, and not be "married". There are also definite practical benefits of being formally married that make it much easier to run a family (finances, tax benefits, health insurance, etc). In an emotional sense, marriage is about committment and companionship.

Your boyfriend is clearly not ready to make a committment. Sounds like you and him have different relationship goals - but keep in mind that he might just be too young to really want to "settle down".

Many different reasons. Sometimes for companionship, financial, children involved, so on and so on. the reason would depend on the people involved. Sometimes too, people are in love with the idea of being in love and feel they must marry to prove something, sometimes it is peer pressure. I guess the best reason is because the two people involved shared the same hopes, dreams and goals for the future and want to spend their time growing old together while they pursue those goals. If they love one another and are also friends it is a bonus.

people get married for many different reasons, sometimes love, companionship, security or to start a family. Sometimes people get married because they feel society pushes it on them, or they are getting too old or they can't do better. Everyone has different reasons.

To start a family. So that the children won't become bast*rds. So that the bride gets to wear a wedding gown which she dreams of from the time she was a little girl.
