It might cost more, but using a well-known company is usually the best way to go. They have to have all the proper paperwork, including insurance on your stuff, and need to keep a good reputation in order to stay in business. I've heard lots of scary stories about moving companies taking peoples' stuff, then charging the people more in order to get their stuff back, IF they ever get their stuff back. Sort of like holding your stuff hostage. I've always moved myself, using friends & family. That way, I was guaranteed to get all my stuff safely (most times!) to my house. Asking your friends & family which company they use is probably the best way to go, if you can't move yourself. Check with your states' Better Business Bureau to see if they've had any complaints against them. Always, always get your price quotes in writing. Get everything in writing. It's all you'll have if things go wrong. Get as much information as you can regarding the company you'll be using. After all, this is all the stuff you own, so you can't just trust it to some guy just because he drives a moving van. It's pretty sad that you have to go so far now days, but you have to protect yourself. If you don't, who will? <*)))><

Check for insurance. Also check to see if any of your friends or neighbours have used a moving company and were pleased with there service. A lot of people say ask for references, but in reality, the ones giving you a reference could be relatives or friends of the moving company. North American Van Lines I know is a good mover if they have them in your area.

when choosing a moving company first you must look at the quality of the truck if the truck is bad it will most likely die in the middle of the road! next you must see how they handle your things and finally you have got to consult the prices

The length of time they have been in business, whether they pad your furniture, do they provide cartons? Check the local BBB because even the national companies have local yokels.
My favorites: North American, Mayflower, Bekins.
Make sure they have air ride vans, or trailers, less jarring of contents.
