I remember reading a while back a series about a group of kids who find each other in one way or another. I think they were genetically enhanced or altered either from birth or before. They have certain powers I think. all i can really remember was that their was a bad doctor after them and two of the main characters a boy and a girl where locked in a closet and started kissing. I know im being really vague but its all i can remember.

James Patterson wrote about a group of kids who were genetically altered. He wrote other books inbetween so the series was kind of spread out. That may be the one you are thinking of. I do know there is another series about kids like that though. The kids in James Patterson's books can fly if that helps.
