The SAT is recognized by many more people.

Neither is better. They're both standardized tests and are very biased in nature (studies have proven this). At the same time, you can't get into universities without at least one of them. Take whichever one the place(s) you want to go require.

By the way, the truly don't take precedence over other things in your academic career. I made a fairly low SAT score, had almost a perfect GPA (3.98/4.0) and applied to a school with a much higher "standard SAT score" than I had. I got in with flying colors and even applied late....but was also offered scholarships from that school.

I took them both - I recommend the SAT because it is looked at by a wider range of schools than the ACT

The better schools will want you to take the SAT

the SAT has more name recognition, but i found the ACT to be waaaaay easier.
