I have done a cursory search of the internet and keep getting frustrated by sites that offer leads, advice, etc. to freelance writers, but they all want money up front. I have found that most sites that require money up front are not worth the effort. Does anyone know about good places to go to find more info?

Thanks!

Your best bet is to check out a book called The Writers Market. It is a comprehensive source of who's buying what in the writing world. You local library will have the current version. If there is a university near you, their library will have a copy. Never buy this book, because it is gets updated each year and a lot of the info becomes obsolete. But it is the most concise and compregensive guide to the writing market that you will find. Anywhere.

They also have advice and guides on how to solicit publishers with your work.
