Don't know york but do they have a quasar centre ie lasergun arena..
But thats not long , not a day thing...

I have two sons which are a similar age group. I don't know York very well but some cheap suggestions are:
Cinema.
Swimming.
Go karting.
Beach.
Yorvik viking centre.
Take them out cycling
Take them to a sports centre where there'll be a broad range of things for them to do.

Howard Castle is not too bad its near york if it isnt a part of it that is.train museum,jorvik centre the dungeons,museum's,cheap canal boat trip's.there's lot's to do there i love going to york.best thing is just to enjoy.
