I love Anchorage! I lived there for several years. However, I just had to move out of that state, and see what life is like in the Lower 48.
If you are worried about your kids, just try to move to a more liberal state. I would recommend staying out of the Southern states (Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, etc) - they can be really closeminded there. In any state, you will find pig headed, racist people, but as long as you ignore them, you will find that most people are quite accepting. I'd recommend either the West or East Coast, personally. I've found that the people there are less apt to judge you based on things like that. But, anywhere you choose, I'm sure that you will find people that will accept you and your family.
Hope this helps!

Everywhere is more accepting of multi-racial kids than 20 years ago when those stories might have started. But still, the bigots and racists do seem to cluster in small towns and in the south. And, your kids would likely feel more comfortable in an area where they are the only mixed-race kids.

Seattle, Portland*, San Francisco and LA areas are all very, very accepting of mixed-race people and there are many around. University towns throughout the country (Ann Arbor MI, Lawrance KS, Madison WI, Corvallis OR, etc) are very liberal, accepting (but pretty dang white).

*Friends in Portland (a black/white couple) have kids in the schools there. There was a new Asian kid in pre-school. Nothing unusual about that. But their son was surprised when Asian parents came to pick up the boy. He hadn't seen that happen before (because the other Asian kids were adopted kids in white families).

I just moved from Anchorage/Wasilla Alaska 4 months ago. I lived in alaska all my life (23 years) and had to move to Alabama for a career oppertunity. I love it here! There are alot of mix here and interratial dateing and marriage. I think its accepted here, though there are also alot of raceists just like everywhere else though. I love it here and dont regret the move. I dont think there is anything to worry about but I can see your worry!!

My brother has lived in Anchor Point for the last 30 or so years. He comes down to Texas now for the warmer winters. I think we are pretty accepting down here but there are racist idiots in every state.
