go to your local nursery or home depot or somethin and buy them - rosemary is nice too, it will eventually grow into a nice bush that smells wonderful in the summer
if you like or need a good groundcover, you could get some creeping thyme
but they will also have your basil and parsley, and it beats growing it from a seed

Simplicity itself: Get a packet of seed at your garden centre and four large pots with compost to fill them. Fill the pots up to half an inch from the top, water until well wet - be careful where the water runs out the bottom or your mom will kill you - there are some small trays to put the pots into. Put some seed into each pot and bury them no more than a quarter inch under the top. Keep an eye on them and water if they dry out. The kitchen window sill - inside - would be ideal. In about ten days you should see the little plants peeping out. Water them whenever they dry out and your are off and running. Enjoy yourself....

You may be able to get herbs in a pot already started at a local nursery. Don't limit yourself to just parsley and basil, try mint and dill and others.

Have fun.

Herbs are easy to grow, either from seeds or from prestarted plants from the nursery. Read up on each one, so you know a bit about them and how to dry them for storage, etc. EX: if you grow mint, it will take over the whole garden if you let it. But you can use the leaves either fresh or dried.

Find some soil. Plant some seeds. Water the plants. Harvest the herbs.
