I think school should be a year 'round deal. When I went to school we did not get spring breaks in grades 1-12, we did not get so many half days, and guess what many of us actually learned...
We also did not have computers, electric typewriters (except in the office of the school), and we all had to earn grades not get them by scaring the "h" out of the teachers (or because we were an asset to the school's sporting teams)... We did not meet between classes to smoke dope, and we did not worry nearly as much about sex because if we did not bring home a good report card we would never have the chance to get out long enough to even think about sex!
I think schools should be year 'round, teachers would work a 40 hour week (ON THE JOB!) All breaks except for National Holidays Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter, (then again why should the students get any religious holidays since now many schools forbid the worship of God in public schools)? I think school should be 12 months a year, you must attend at least 11 months of that year (30 sick days is more than enough in a year!) AND make a grade ABOVE an F to pass to the next highest grade! Schools always want more money, I do not have children, so I am paying for some of the education and I think I have some grand ideas about what we need to DEMAND from our "public schools"!
If I had my way, there would not be time off for summer or any holidays that have been traditionally (time off), If you can't say a prayer then why do you need to have time off to celebrate Christ's birthday or his resurrection?
Just an opinion from a tax paying, childless American!

I'm attending University of Phoenix, I go to school all year long, even holidays, we get one week off for Christmas break but every other day of the year can be a school day.
The gradeschoolers around here go back August 21st and the community college starts on the 28th. I never started school before September until I moved here.
