Hope you have another job lined up first. Hey, you may not like the next job either. There is no perfect job. There are always people that don't like you or you don't like or get along with.

Before you give a 2 week notice at least try this. Get a serving container. Put some candy in it. People will drop by your desk to get candy. Try to find out more about their interests, and talk to them. At least see if this improves the environment.

Ask yourself are you qualified to to the job. If you need additional training most companies will pay all or part of the tuition for night classes.

The recommender will appreciate your efforts, and if it still doesn't work out still you'll at least get a good reference.

Don't even sweat it! Just write a letter of resignation. If you really hate it, you can make the letter effective immediately. If you do that, just write something like "Effective immediately, I, your name, resign from my employment at ABC Company." Then just sign and date that puppy, turn it in to your manager, and you're out of there.

I look at it this way, companies do not hesitate to downsize employees, even while they're making record profits. You don't owe the company anything. I would talk to the person who recommended you for the job though, to explain why you quit.

I agree...politely and concisely write a letter of resignation. They probably won't even say anything. 2 weeks is customary, but if you don't think you can make it that long, resign starting today or tomorrow.

Good luck and tell your friend thank you and you're sorry the job wasn't working for you.
