I believe your are talking of "jets of energy" emanating from a distant star, on both poles.
This is the result of matter falling on the star (or a black hole). The huge amount of energy is absorbed by the star and a strong magnetic field is generated. In the axis of the magnetic field are jets of matter/radiations ejected into space.
