its because even though most don't admit it we inter breed with only caucasians mostly and light color eyes are recessive trait little (r) and dark eyes are traits of the dominant (R). So when caucasians and darker skined people breed with each other it is very unlikely that their child will have light eyes unless somewhere in the dark skinned family there was someone who breed like this before. So if that person has the ressive trait and dominat trait in one like this (Rr) the outcome of the childs eyes may be different. Here is an example of a Punnett Square:

The Punnett square is a genetic diagram designed by Reginald Punnett that biologists continue to use in order to determine the probability of an offspring expressing a particular genotype.

~~~R~~R
R~~RR~~RR
r~~~Rr~~Rr
see now there is a chance that the child can have light eyes. a 50% chance, its luck of draw.
Eye colour and skin colour is all based on pigment levels. The more melanin (brown pigment) you have, the darker your skin and eyes. A lack of melanin results in blue eyes/blond hair. If we come from ancestral lines where the melanin levels were high, then there's a good chance we'll have dark skin and eyes. This is why 2 black parents can still have an albino baby - it's the pigmentation at birth that determines how light or dark we are. Here's a good page that explains how the different eye colours exist:
I thought all races had a variety of eye colours? It's just that some are more prevalent (like hair colour) than others in different races. It's also quite common to have different coloured eyes in one person.
Eye color is a physical trait that is genetically determined. Any discussion of the inheritance of eye color,
requires a review of genetics. In basic terms, eye color is determined by
the amount of a pigment called melanin that is in the iris of the eye.
Brown eyes have lots of pigment, blue eyes very little. The amount of
pigment is determined by a number of genes controlling pigment production.
Generally speaking, brown is dominant, meaning that if one parent has brown
eyes and the other has blue eyes, the baby will most likely have brown
eyes. But the situation is really much more complicated than that.
Actually some other races do, it's just rare. They have different components in their genes, and usually the brown eye colour cannot be overpowered.
originally Caucasians had light eyes (gray or blue), other races - brown to black. these are caused by our genes. actually genes which cause dark colors of skin, eyes,hair are dominating over those which cause light ones. so, when people from different races "mix", their children will have darker skin/eyes color than those of their Caucasian parent.
you can still see black people with blue eyes, it's possible, but very rare - because genes for blue eyes are ''weaker", and one of parents is definitely black
It is whatever genetic traits you inherited. I for instant have one eye that is half brown and Half Hazel while the other eye is all hazel. My mom has one eye with two little dots of brown and I guess I got more then a couple little dots.
We are descended from mutants from Sirius A. The eye color gene is recessive, though, and in fact, green and blue irises use the same sequence.
