I found being on the pill really great as it eliminated cramps, that previously had been causing me to be in-capacitated 2 days a month.
I didn't notice any particular side-effects, but switched to a low-estrogen version as my blood pressure was slightly higher than it should have been for a slim-fit young person. Was on the pill for 10 years, no trouble at all.
However, I have now switched to the 'implanon' implant and it is even better. Still minimal cramps, but I don't have to remember to take it. Some bleeding at wierd times of the month, but only a little bit so is not much trouble. In the implant doesn't mess with the blood pressure as much.
I had no trouble with weight gain or spots or 'not being in the mood' so far as I can tell.

Hi i went on the pill when i was 15 to help with heavy periods and i had no problems. I then changed to the depo injection that you have every 3 months which was great because you didn't have to remember to take the pill. I am now 27 and i had a baby daughter 4 months ago. i then went on the mini pill which you take every day which i am finding a pain. I have decided to have a hormone implant put into my arm which lasts 3 years it can be taken out at any time and your fertility comes back with in a month. You can get this changed every 3 years until menopause.

Look into a depro injection...
Like the pill only one injection lasts 3 months...
Also you can get a weekly pill patch... similar principle
Thats way you don't forget to take it at the right time as you were sleeping in after a massive bender the night before waking up on the other side of the city in someones bathtub with 10 % memory of the night before or take one two late for some other reason.
This goes triple for teenagers and young women.
Listen to ray mag above as well... Look into it and note some drugs legal or otherwise effect its effectiveness ie you take one medicine and the pill aint working and you get pregnant.

Depends on which brand you use. Some of the older type of pills can have side effects that are like early pregnancy - nausea and sickness, sore boobs, headaches etc. I found that with Femodene - it made me really sick and nauseous. When I switched to Cilest (one of the newer types) I was fine.
Obviously you should only go on the pill after you've had a check up with your doctor and be prescribed it, but if it doesn't agree with you and you do get side effects, go back and see your doctor, because you might need to try a few different brands before you find the one which you are comfortable with.

I started out on Ortho Tri Cyclene. I found it hard to take the pill at the same time every day. Thus i got pregnant.
After i had my daughter, i went on the Ortho Evera patch. It was ok but i was bugged out the fact that a sticker kept me from being prego.
I then switched to the Nuva Ring. I have been on it for 6 months and i love it. You change it once a month and dont have to think about it otherwise. You do not feel it inside of you either.

Personally I have tried the combined pill and the mini pill and both made me feel unwell. The combined pill made me put on weight and with the mini pill I was bleeding all the time. The best option for me in the end is the copper coil. There are no hormones in it that will play havoc with you. My advice would be to speak to your local family planning doctor. Also, look it up on the net. There is a lot of helpful info on the net.
Good luck in your decision.

I have been on the pill for 6 years and have never had any problems. I hate condoms so they were not an option for me an my partner, and I feel more in control of the fact that I wont get pregnant when I take it.
One side effect I had my boobs went from a 32c cup to a 32dd! Great!

Re which one - it depends whehter you are taking it for contraceptive purposes or for hormone control (periods, acne etc).
Jasmin and Dianette (stronger pills) are good for acne.
The main side effect to watch out for is blood pressure.
Give it a couple of months as it can take a while to settle onto a pill - go for it!

Been on it for perioids for 10 years, no problems, can cause weight gain though. Once you're reasonably healthy you're good to go, they say smoking may be a down point, I've always smoked on it with no ill side effects. All the same if I could be on something else I would because of smoking.

It is very important to go to a family planning clinic or a GP who has time to listen as all women are different hence the different types of pill. The clinic will go through all the different methods and the pros and cons.
