What do you mean by "love"? If you mean a simple caring, then can you care for someone else more than you care for yourself? If you do, would you not automatically have a resentment?

If you are referring to Love in an absolute sense, then you are speaking of the Love of God, and this Love is within us, but is not ours to use, but to experience within ourselves only. This is the reason we must "first learn to Love ourselves". Actually, Love is absolute acceptance, and this is quite difficult to give to anyone, including oneself, unless the other or oneself is open to the absolute nature of acceptance. Takes a high level of Spiritual evolution to embrace absolute acceptance.

That's pretty easy...If we can't learn to love ourselve, we can never learn to love anyone else...and because of that we would put up "barriers" so people could never love us...I think It has quite a bit to do with trust.....

If you cannot love yourself then it is not possible to love anything else. Without any ability to love there is no chance of happiness. Without happiness life becomes a burden and a waste.

Life is a whole lot easier and you will deal with others better. You can also never rise to a successful level in any endeavor unless you love and believe in yourself and your abilities..

that is what i have always heard.and i have also heard that you have to love god before you can love anyone else.but i have a different theory....i think that if you love someone, and they love you back, and you have not completely learned to love yourself, that the love you both share will teach you to love yourself more.
