Heh heh, I just asked an extremely similar question myself. Roman Polanski raped a 13 year old and no one bats an eye. Mel Gibson makes drunken stupid remarks about Jewish people and Hollywood goes ape. While I don't condone drinking (and certainly not while driving), and I don't condone making anti-Semitic remarks, I don't see the point in boycotting his work as a result.

You make a good point. The media does get their pet story of the day and swing it around like nothing else I have ever seen. Mr. Mel Gibson is no better or no worse then anyone who did the same things. I don't approve, but i can watch the guy fried in the media.
Second part of this thought is Mr. Gibson got in line for his fate. he or any other celebrity knows on the way in that being famous does have a price. Having your personal life splashed all over the media is part of that price. Good and bad, it's just that bad gets more time because the public loves dirty laundry.
If we the public were not hungry for it, the media wouldn't churn it out. It's sort of like porn, many people condemn it, but if no one watched, there wouldn't be any. So who's watching? Same with the stories on Gibson and the rest.

The leftist media hates Mel Gibson as much as they hate Bush.
Fact is Mel needs help, he's a drunk and should be sitting in a treatment center then in AA meetings.. We say and do stupid crap when we are drunk.. We see the world through Rose Colored glasses.
I like Mel, and partly because he doesn't bow to the Hollywood leftist scum. It's the media that find Mel distainful, and they want the people to hate him so his movies don't see. Mel had a contract with Disney Studios for a new movie and with his antisemitic statements to the cops Eisner ran him out on a rail.
I don't think Gibson's antisemitism was anything more then drunk talk.I used to say a lot of stuff drunk I regretted later, I still say stuff sober 20+ years I regret later. Thats life.

I don't think the Mel Gibson DUI thing has been blown up at all. Mel Gibson produces media that reaches millions of people. Where much is given, much is required. Robert Downing went to rehab, but he didn't insult millions of people in the process.
The patronage of people like you and me has helped make Mel Gibson the multi-millionaire he is - and if he's an f'd up bigot, I think we deserve to know that.

Yah it is "retarded" that a actor has to do drugs and drink heavily and waste there God given talent.
I dont care who you are, you get a DUI your driver lincesnse should be taken away.
Mel Gibson said after passion of the christ that it released his demons- He lied, and people look up to him. I did really like him for making Passion of christ, and now im never going to see a movie with him in it again. He just made that movie just to earn $$

Mel Gibson showed extreme arrogance with his statements. Years ago, he made homophobic statements. He knew the price before he opened his mouth.
What goes around, comes around and Mel is now eating his just desserts: humble pie. ABC has cancelled his latest project about the Holocaust. Gee, I wonder why ....
His alcoholism gave him the courage to say what is really on his mind and in his heart.
Maybe he will learn a lesson about respect and stop acting like such a hot shot know-it-all.

I think the big question is why does anyone care? Why is it even on the news? I don't know him. I'm sure I never will. He's not my father, or my brother. If he was drinking and driving then shame on him for endagering peoples lives-but they don't put everyone on tv for doing the same thing. Sometimes they don't even put someone who kills people while drinking and driving on tv. WHO CARES ABOUT WHAT MEL GIBSON DOES JUST BECAUSE HE'S FAMOUS?

Really, He made a mistake. I think his family has suffered enough for it and they should just quit making such a big deal out of it. Imagine being a kid at school and people making fun of you because your dad is plastered all over the news for dui. It would be sooo embarassing. There was a rock star once that killed someone drunk driving and got community service so they really should not make a big deal out of it.

But Mel Gibson committed the great Hollywood sin...he made a blockbuster movie with out their approval. So the media moguls who didn't get their piece of pie are now going to roast him over it.

My friend was killed three months after her eightteenth birthday by a drunken driver. Don't say we all do it, becuase there is no way I would ever drive drunk. I always, always, always take precautions to make certian I
a) have a safe SOBER ride home
b) have cash and credit for a taxi, if something unexpected happens
c) can spend the night somewhere if I need to.
The thing about this incident that gets me mad, is that all you hear about are his stupid remarks. He was driving drunk, and it's almost ignored, it's just a lead in for the other story. Drunk driving kills people. Remarks, however hurtful, don't.
