Anytime you have to stop the car it has difficulty getting up to speed. Engine light also came on today for the first time since this started. Could this be a vacuum leak? About how much would something like this cost to have fixed?

Thanks!

Michelle :-)

Just wanted to add the engine light went out the same day it came on. Husband went to drive it again & it went off. All of you have been a real help & given us a few options to try before we hand over our wallet to a mechanic. :-)

Thanks! :-)

ok here's some things to look for and do:
1. first and easiest, on your next fillup put a pint of ATF in the gas right before filling.
2. if this doesn't work, there is a TPS(throttle position sensor) which can cause this problem as well as MAF sensor (Mass Airflow Sensor) these should all be dealt with by a knowledgeable service technician.
But #1 has worked a lot for me, the ATF clean and oils the pump and injectors.

The 'Check Engine ' light might be your friend here. I could waste a lot of time rattling off possibilities of what might be the cause here or you could just go and have it checked out and see what the cause of the 'Check Engine' light is and be done with it. And it may cost you a couple of hundred dollars but it will be fixed and done with and you won,t have to worry about your vehicle leaving you stranded somewhere. Good luck.

I had a customer with that type of vehicle, same symptoms...turns out he is a price shopper for gas..These trucks are finicky of the fuel they use...stick with one gas station and keep going there..try that and see...o by the way..DO NOT put trans fluid in with the gas!!!!!

The reason changing gas stations can be a problem is that the computer monitors how the car burns its fuel...using different gas may burn a little different..causes computer problems(check engine light)..give it a try..and dont go between regular and super..pick one and stay with it for the same reasons as above..hope i helped..even a little

Try putting something like Gumout in the gas tank. It cleans the carburator and fuel injectors. It might help.

it may cost alot, but it is worth it for the age of the car. it could be a vacume leak, but it may be that something is not wired correctly or is loose.
