In a certain island natives speak lies & visitors speak truth. I was on a visit there & asked the waiter in a hotel to tell me whether the woman sitting opp to me was a native or not.He came & said that "She says that she is a visitor here". Can you infer whether the waiter is a native / visitor?

The waiter is a visitor.
If the woman is a visitor, she'll tell the truth and say i'm a visitor.
If the woman is a native, she'll lie and say I'm a visitor.
So the woman will say I'm a visitor, no matter what.
So if the waiter says she said visitor, he's telling the truth and must be a visitor.
If the waiter says she said native (which we've just shown she CAN'T say) he'd be a liar.

I think he is a visitor.
If she was a visitor and he were a native then he would have said she was a native.
If she was a native she would tell him she was a visitor. If he were a native then he would have lied and said she was a native.

There is insufficient data.
But...
If the waitor is a native _and_has_conveyed_your_question_ correctly (assumption)... the woman being a visitor would say she is a visitor and hence the waitor would call her a native - whereas the woman being a native would say she is a visitor and hence the waitor would call her a native... hence, the waitor is a visitor
However, if the waitor does not convey your question correctly (being a native and a liar) you could get ANYTHING!

They are either both natives or both visitors. But he works at the hotel so I guess he would need to be a native.

you can't determine it because if the waiter is a native.. he's lying about what she said. IF the visitor is a native she's also lying.

If he is the waiter then he is not a visitor; if he is not the visitor he is a native; therefore, he is a liar.

Everyone would say they were a visitor (whether lying or being truthful), so the waitor must be telling the truth.
However, we wouldn't be able to figure out if the woman is telling the truth or not.
