I thought it was an excellent commentary on the dangers of apathy and an over-commercialized society, as well as the dangers of when a government goes unchecked. In the book, the government is only reacting to "public opinion" - and that opinion is that they don't care any more and are detached from reality.

The film, however, was very weak. They left out Faber and the mechanical hound!

I read Fahrenheit 451 and I found mildly disturbing. I enjoy reading books that are outside of the norm and to live in such an oppressive society. It reminded me a little bit about this society and the way that certain civil iberties we take for granted are slowly being taken away. Sometimes it is not even the government at fault, it's us. Sometimes it's peer pressure that forces us to conform.

A rather disturbing book in its approach, I found it was promoting an anti-intellectual society. Scary.
