I have an '06 Mustang GT. Is it safe to use gasoline with 10% ethanol? Will I get better performance without ethanol? Can it handle a certain percentage of ethanol safely? I know this is a lot of questions, but thank you for any help.

Yes it is safe. Ethanol has slightly less energy than gasoline, so your mileage and power will drop...but I would challenge you to actually be able to measure it running just a 10% blend. Run 6 tanks of regular...then 6 tanks of gas with 10% ethanol. See if your mileage changes on average. I have successfully run Ethanol blended fuel here in Nebraska since the late 80s...never had a problem! They have been selling Gasoline with an E10 for over 20 years here in the midwest, and a handful of states now require that ALL gasoline in their states contain 10% ethanol.

It is safe so have no fear using it, however, do the 12 tank mileage check I recommended to see if you notice any difference in economy. If your mileage drops noticeably you will have to determine if the environmental, societal, national interests outweigh any difference in mileage. Good Luck!

bitchin' car by the way...

Any car is fine with 10% ethanol. No your performance will not increase. You will notice a slight drop in gas mileage, however. All cars can actually handle a higher percentage of ethanol with out having to change the mixture.

Any vehicle can handle up to 10% ethanol safely. The summer blend in most of the country is 10% ethanol for pollution control reasons since MTBE was banned in many areas.

Most newer cars can handle up to 15% ethanol. In California there are several brands (Arco for one) that blend ethanol in to meet the stricter emission standards in California. While ethanol can reduce the emissions from a motor vehicle it is not as efficient in its burn as gasoline. There fore you may experience a nominal power loss using a blended fuel.

I tried 10% ethanol in my '98 GT once & I won't use it again. She sucked it right up like it was water. Too expensive to use

ethonal is fuel made from corn some times used to thin out regular petro gas. Your mustang GT will run all day long on much higer concentrations of ethonal.
