Sounds like a short in monitor first thing try swapping power cables with pc if they are the same. Try plugging into different outlet. If neither of these work. Try plugging a different monitor into the machine to rule out problem with machine if it acts the same way would suspect a problem with the machine. Hope this helps

It could be your monitor's brand is not compatible with the CPU, or you did not connect correctly and maybe one of the pins is distorted or spoilt, in addition, it could be your video card is obsolete, giving you problems.
My recommendation is check the pins of your monitor serial port and if one of them is bend or distorted, replace a new cable else change the whole monitor, if it does not solve the problem, check the video card's compatibilities with the CPU against the system requirements.
If none of the above works, change a new monitor.

I'd scan for viruses first. Give AVG FREE a try: www.grisoft.com

Also, snag the free copy of Crap Cleaner: www.ccleaner.com

If problem persists, check the graphics card. And if all else fails to correct this: buy a new PC monitor.

sounds like the monitor itself. Try connecting another one and see it the same thing happens. If it does not - the answer is obvious. If it does then it could be your video card that is failing.
