My husband will be working in Richmond. I need to know which town would be safest and easiest to get to BART. I have teenagers, so I need a town that isn't so remote that there is nothing to do. Any suggestions? I heard Richmond has a high crime rate.

Well, I'm originally from Berkeley and I know of no safe area near Richmond. It's a crap shoot anyway you look at it.. Good luck. You might check out Pinole. Thats about the only area that just comes to mind right now. Berkeley Hills area, NOT Berkeley proper is OK, but expensive and is a distance from Richmond :(

Richmond has a horrible crime rate... You might try hercules or vallejo (which is a little rough too). Along the Bart lines El Cerrito or Albany might be okay, skip berkeley and oakland, San Leandro, Hayward, Union City & Fremont would be okay. Also the commute from places like benicia, crocket and Martinez are manageable to richmond via highway 4.

I was born in Berkeley and lived in Richmond for 24 years
You should look at the following cities: Hercules, El Sobrante, Pinole and also Orinda (pricey)
Orinda, Lafayette and Moraga have the best schools
However if you move to El Sobrante, you may be able to get a transfer to the Orinda School District.
Richmond does have a high crime rate, so avoid the inner city if at all possible.
You can also look into ElCerrito, Kensington and Albany

Good Luck and Welcome

Take out a map of bart and start looking for places along the line. Walnut Creek and Concord and Pleasant Hill are pretty good and inexpensive... HOT though in the summer.

El Cerrito is good as long as you are east of San Pablo Ave and south of Moser Lane.

I don't know what is wrong with Berkeley around the North Berkeley Bart Station... I think it is one of the best places in the world to live.

I have lived in Santa Cruz, Berkeley, Oakland, Lake County, Orange County, Alameda, El Cerrito, London and Los Angeles. Berkeley is amazing.

verify out Walnut Creek, that's a pair of 35 minute prepare holiday into Downtown SF in the morning and approximately quarter-hour north of San Ramon. It has the main suitable downtown scene of any east bay suburb with a lot of procuring, eating places, arts, way of existence, bars, and nightlife. because you're youthful you will relish the nightlife and scene of downtown. The downtown is rather compact and walkable and there are multiple residences interior of sight interior of strolling distance. that's an top midsection type suburb so crime is rather low yet housing expenses could be somewhat severe. For youthful adults working in SF and San Ramon that's in all likelihood the main suitable place to stay with the aid of fact it grants a lively existence-form with each and all of the centers downtown and is in user-friendly commuting distance to each and each place.
