If the government provided basic services like food shelter and clothing then the government would vanish. Somewhere in the middle of the country falling apart.

If you get food, shelter, and clothing for free no matter what were is the motivation for a general laborer to work. I mean if I knew I had that for me and my family no matter what I think I would go fishing everyday and never get a job. If no one works then who builds the houses, grows the food and makes the clothes? The few people who want to do it beaus it the right thing to do? Also a church provides things for less people then they have members giving money. If the government provided for everyone where would the money come from? we can't fund Medicare and social security and that is only the old and sick. You need to take like a Jr. high econ class, higher level would be better but Jr. high would do. Your idea is the dumbest one ever.

The churches go to selected poor areas and give away stuff for free but for every person they give stuff to money is coming from several people with jobs. So they only are able to mess up small areas. Look at the Christian children's fund. How long have they been in the same place? Why is it only getting worse there? Which all that money you would think it would get better? Oh wait they feed people make sure they are healthy enough to have kids but do not create jobs for the adults. So then they have more kids in worse conditions to feed. A good portion of churches and charities do more harm then good if you look at it from a 20 year perspective instead of 1 day at a time.

Churches don't make people work for the aid. Most give it out to the poor no matter what they believe or do. they think by setting a good example people will want to be like them. They don't have to do some little job to get it. They just have to show up. A lot of them will help build the churches and what not with the people giving aid, but they will be given food and what not whether they help or not.

The education system began to fail in the 60s because the hippies turned away from everything that took effort. They were like if it feels good do it. Well, studding and working don't feel good. Being good and acting right does not always feel good either. So the embraced sex and drugs those make you "feel good"

I disagree with the premise of your question. There are many religious institutions that do significant charity work for non-members. Also, the majority of people who are religious are not religious because they need some kind of charity.

If you want religion to go away, then you have to find replacements for those things that religion really provides, such as emotional comfort, moral guidance, a sense of community, and answers to philosophical questions.

Full disclosure: I'm an atheist, so my response may be a bit biased.

Religion, in most people, answers a need that none of those services address. Religion is much older than government.
Religion gave birth to government - originally.

Welfare system - founded 1933, through the Social Security Act. 73 years of existence.

CHRIST - founded year 0, through the only virgin birth ever in the history of time. 2006 years of existence.

You do the math.

No. Religion provides a spiritual solace that no government can provide.

You can fill a man's belly, but if his soul is empty, they are still hollow.

As long as there is death, people will wonder and fear what might come after, and that alone will cause religion to persist.
