Get some of that Cold-Eeze stuff...that usually kicks it out pretty quickly.....and drink lots & lots of OJ...
Hope it goes away so you can enjoy your time at the beach.
Take care, Marilyn

ok, so, a cold is a virus so there really is not a medication you can buy. There are, however, many vitamin supplements that can assist in boosting your immune system and drying out your nose so that your post nasal drip will stop and your sore throat will go away (post nasal drip is what causes you to cough). So, as a huge germaphobe who can't get sick b/c it seriously conflicts with my profession, I have sampled many of them and here's what I find:
Vit C - buy a generic brand at a pharmacy or the grocery store and take it every day
Zicam - I like the gel nose swabs because nose spray is gross to me. I've heard rumors that zinc and vit c "cancel each other out" but I think that's just BS. Zinc will help dry out your nose so make sure to drink plenty of water and you might need to rub the inside of your nose with vaseline so it's doesn't get too dry.
Cold-eeze - zinc cough drops that taste like a$$ but they really work. I get the sugar free kind that just disolve in a minute or so. Don't over-do the zinc. I would say no more than 4 zinc products in one day so 4 cough drops, 4 zicam swams, or some combo adding to 4.
Emergen-C - this is 5000% of your daily recommended intake of vit C, it comes in small packets that you disolve in water (all kinds of flavors.
Nyquil - make sure you take some kind of cold med at night to help you sleep better (so you're body has a better chance to heal) and so your nose isn't as stuffy in the morning.
Lastly, the best thing EVER created...
AIRBORNE!! - it's a combo supplement designed to help prevent colds. It comes in a tube and there're ten tablets, disolve one in a glass of water like 3 times a day. they're great because the tablets effervesce (sp?) so it feels good on your throat and it disolves all the way. I like the orange flavor.
That's it, hope this helps and have fun at the beach!

I don't like taking OTC products because many ingredients actually works against the natural body defenses... (I have to be REALLY sick to do so) Ok, here's what I do...
Hot chicken soup: Chicken has properties that help booster the immune system.
Drink Fluids. Grandparents may say "hot toddies"...never had one but heard they work. Friends say hot tea. I don't like tea, but it is 'proven' to work. I tend to drink water and orange juice.
Drinking fluids should help your stuffy nose as well.
Kleenex. Should help your stuffy nose by actually ridding the body of the germs it's probably being prevented from eliminating through the use of OTC products. Using any OTC w/ anti-histamines actually works against immune sys. Histamines is the reason why your nose is running. The ole' wives tales about running nose is the cold running out of you has some basis in fact.
Though, there may be no cure for the common cold you can help your body help itself. Get Well Soon.

OOOOOO READ MY ANSWER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well...I'm sure you could still go to the beach if you couldn't get it to go away immediatly. But It wouldn't be that good of a time. So call or visit your local pharmacy and ask what is best to take for your cold. As others have said, Drink lots of fluids. This means Water, Orange Juice, and other types of juices. Try to make sure they are more than 5% juice. LoL. Get to sleep around 8:00 PM. That way, you can have the time before hand to exercise. Or take a nice bath. Get a massage by someone or whichever suits you. Maybe purchase a humidifier.

Try some herbal remedies and lots of vitamins. Get lots of sleep and fluids. Either way don't let a stuffy nose keep you from the beach.

Take 5 black pepper whole, 2 cloves, a piece of fresh ginger, a small piece of Cinnamon stick and pinch of all other hot spices available in your house. Boil them together in water and drink like soup three times a day. Add little extra black pepper powder in your evening soup and drink. Avoid sugar totally until you feel better and start consuming jaggery in place of sugar. Inhale steam thrice a day. Avoid ice cream and aerated cold drinks and cold water. Be away from cold temperature and avoid cold water shower. Cover your body with warm cloths at night. Take some cough syrup for early relief. Take care and be in good health.

Take a cold medicine like Robitussin DM that will loosen you up. Going to the beach may just be the ticket to help you out though. Salt water and sunshine can do wonders for a cold.

There is an old truism which says that if you treat a cold, it will be gone in seven days. If you do nothing, it will be gone in a week. All you can do is try to relieve some of the symptoms, so drink plenty of fluids...water...tea...chicken soup. There is still no cure.

Garlic capsules are reputed to reduce the symptom of a cold and speed recovery. They also act as a preventative - often I go a whole winter without catching a cold while everyone else around me is suffering all sorts of revolting symptoms.
(get odour-free garlic capsules otherwise no-one will go near enough to you to make it worth going to the beach in the first place!)

There are no cures for the cold virus. The best treatment is rest, at night, which is when the immune system regenerates. Also a lot of water, to wash the junk out of your system.
