My husband runs his own consulting business and as a perk to his business clients, we would like to offer to set up a web-site for each client he signs on.

I'm very creative and internet savvy, but web-site development is something I have never explored.

Any tips or resources on how I can start something like this would be greatly appreciated!

Ok, let's ignore all the idiot answers so far...

If you want to create a legit site for a real world client, then using things like microsoft frontpage and other people's web services simply won't cut it.

Step 1: Dust off some old computer you have lying around the house. Hopefully it's got an operating system on it, and it's not some green screen hunk of junk still running on vaccuum tubes.

Step 2: Research a couple distributions of Linux, and install it on your crappy old box.

Step 3: Do some research on how to set up your own webserver. There's plenty of info out there, just google it.

Step 4: Learn to write HTML using CSS (cascading style sheets). Again, if u don't know how, google it.

Step 5: When your husband is out of town on a "buisiness trip" call up one of your nerd buddies from highschool or college, and offer a bj in exchange for teaching you how to do this stuff, since you probably don't have the patience.

Step 6: When your nerd buddy fails you, and you've decided that this is waaaay tooooo complicated and irritating to do on your own, either give up, hire somebody, or (God forbid) takes some classes.

There's a lot of learning involved in making a good website: html, css, javascript, photo and graphic editing, etc.

A shortcut would be to use a dynamic template. AllWebcoDesign.com has templates like that. They are beautifully designed with a polished professional appearance, fully coded, very easy to customize and come with step-by-step instructions.

For example, their mini-website comes with a Flash header and is only $15. You edit the name in the Flash header by changing the text in a separate text file. The Flash object will get the website name to display from what is written in the text file.

I used one of their templates several years ago before I became a web developer, and still use the website I made with their template.

P.S. -- Use Microsoft FrontPage only if you want to make a crappy website. :-)

type "website development basics" in google and see what happens.

or if you're pretty savvy and have the cash, buy a copy of Dreamweaver. http://www.adobe.com/products/dreamweaver/

It's really the best software out there for web dev.

visit www.abnsave.com: discounts for small businesses--office supplies, car rentals, shipping, printing--from national suppliers like Office Depot, Hertz, UPS, and FedEx Kinko's.

Try going to a community college in your area, and take a web design class. That will teach you HTML, and the basis on designing a website.

E. non of the above. im a artist and somewhat of a graphic designer. i guess really what u want to do is make it current but new and creative. it has to look like some one payed a team of people to do it for a lot of cash. if u can do that on your own, u will have no problem. make it look as if its been there for ever and people are crazy for passing it up. it needs to blend in with out disappearing. stand out with out jumping out so you don't look to eager. hope this helps

You will first need to learn HTML in order to put up basic sites. Then I would suggest learning JavaScript. Follow up by learning how to use PHP with mysql databases.
