I work as a bagger in a supermarket, where we have a full carryout service policy. However, considering I live near Miami, and the heat has been very intense (and dangerous to one's health). Can my employer legally enforce me to go outside in that?
No snide remarks, please. Insults will be reported.

By the way, about 75% of my day is spent outside in the parking lot, working.

And (not to sound like a whiner), there's the fact that I am continually going from an air-conditioned building into the heat, then back again continually.

I'm so sorry. I hear ya..I am 24 weeks pregnant and even though I work inside...the heat is still a killer.

I think they can have you work outside. My dad works at a refinery and he has to wear full overalls...imagine that. If its really bothering you..you should look for another job. Or maybe tranfer to a different dept. If you have any health issues, you can get a note from your doctor.

Again...I am sorry...and this heat does suck!!!

Probably, unless you have some sort of serious health condition that would make it extremely dangerous for you to be outside.

Drink lots of water and wear a hat.

Is it really that rough to push a cart to someone's car or to carry a couple of bags across a lot? How did you manage to make it from the parking lot into your job?

It's carryout service to a car, not working on a chain gang.

Honestly, if you are that delicate or have such serious health issues, maybe you need to find another job.

I always thought that "at will employment" laws meant that most employers can force you to do anything. The heat probably would not be considered dangerous working conditions unless you passed out, then you could do something about it. Some employers are worse than others, if you have a union, I would consult them also. The state labor boards usually are not much help, I have tried asking them questions in Maryland.

I know in my area we have code red days which means it's way too hot and the air quality it really bad...on code red days you can't force anyone to work outside so maybe if your city/county has something like that your employer could not force you to work outside....

I work in a chemical plant in new orleans. Air temperature plus a lot of big engines and steam. just drink lots of water you'll be fine. It's not like you're spending all day out there.

It's according to what your job description is....most employeers have a heart when it comes to inclement weather, but some don't
