I think it depends on the couple. There are a lot of really mature 21 year olds, but there are a lot of really immature 33 year olds! Or the other way around!
I'm 33 and my husband is 39, and six years may not sound like much of an age difference, but when we met, I was 24 and he was 30, and at first, it was weird! Especially since my husband is such a serious, responsible guy! But it's worked out! And now I'm in my thirty's, and I look at some 24 years olds and wonder how they're capable of even getting dressed each day on their own!
12 years is a big age difference, but if two people (WHO ARE ADULTS!!!) are interested in each other, they should defiantly give it a try. Who cares what society thinks? If it doesn't work out, well, at least they'll know they gave it shot. I'm seeing more and more big age differences between couples then what I use to see. I also see a lot more older women dating younger men. I say if it works, then do it! I wish your friend the best!

It depends on the people involved. Its not such a big deal, girls at 21 are usually as mature and capable of meaningful relationships as a much older man. If love caring, compassion, understanding is there I don't think society has a say in the matter.

No its not. It is fine. It happens a lot in every society. Tom Cruise is 40+ and I bet that many 20 year olds will want to marry him.
